Here’s the thing: Ohtani still goes to Los Angeles, yes
But what a cap might do is push another player to sign with Pittsburgh instead of also LA, because LA can’t fit under the cap what Pittsburgh can
Joe Kelly just dropped an anti-cap truth bomb:
Even if a salary cap meant every team could only offer Shohei Ohtani $10M, he’d still pick the Dodgers over Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, or Minnesota every single time.
Why? Because nobody’s Googling “best places to visit in America” and landing on those cities. Destination + winning culture still wins when the max money is the same for everyone.
A cap doesn’t create parity. It just makes the desirable spots even more dominant.
The Dodgers would love a salary cap.
This isn't even close to being a good point. It's missing every shred of important context.
He fails to mention with a cap, LAD likely can't afford to sign Shohei, unless they released several critical players. Which would add more talent to the open market. Additionally, you would see most of the top FAs HAVE TO sign with lower market teams, because LAD, NYM, NYY, and PHI are at or near the cap. You would also see teams like the A's, CHW, etc required to sign larger contracts to hit the salary floor because a majority of their active roster is pre-arbitration.
Top end players will NEVER vouch for a salary cap/floor. With the current setup, the best players don't have a cap on how much they can make, they can handpick their destination, regardless of the teams roster/payroll construction. But the proof is there. A top 10 payroll has won 9 of the last 10 World series. Dodgers alone have won 3 of the last 6.

I’m simply not going for the “this is who Bo has always been” BS.
I watched these games. I saw that QB. A dawg.
I’m going to believe that he’s more likely to get back to being this guy than he is to be the quarterback he’s been recently forever.
And I’ll die on that hill.

Not much to say here outside of this: there's no reason to tender a contract to a 37 year old RP that has been terrible since you acquired him. Save the money and move on from Brazoban.

Sox ran Newcomb into the ground down the stretch. It makes me all but assume they did that with the intention of not resigning him. Hope I'm wrong, because he was one of the most reliable pitchers on the staff this year. I would love to have Grichuk back, but after his showing since arriving in Chicago, I assume he's going to get a starting role somewhere. Fedde was sneakily reliable for the Sox this year, but I don't really see a role for him going forward. The other guys are just back end of the roster waiver claims that will be playing elsewhere in 2027.
EXTENSIONS
Vargas came into his own this year, and in the postseason he seemed to get even better. Don't overthink it, extend him before his pricetag is doubled. Buy out his 3 arb years with the extension, and an additional 3 years after, leaving him some room for another potential contract after his age 32 season. And take advantage of Murakami's shaky postseason. He hit 35 home runs while missing a month and a half of the season. Again, don't overthink it. This extension starts after 2027 season, effectively having Mune and Vargas extensions ending at the same time.
Overall, this off-season needs to be centered around one thing: pitching, pitching, PITCHING. Go get all the pitching you possibly can. Additionally, add to this core of hitters to make the lineup even better. An added bonus would be adding as much talent with playoff experience as possible. Making enough moves in the rotation gives the Sox the flexibility to let prospect SPs like Schultz and McDougal get more stretched and seasoned in the minors before their counter on for critical innings.
The Sox were an incredibly fun team to watch in 2026. However, down the stretch and in the last few games of the postseason, all of their flaws were on full display. Not enough pitching. Way too much swing and miss. Not a patient enough approach. And not enough experience. Replacing Colson and Benintendi/Grichuk with Alvarez and Dubon/Cholowsky adds a lot more contact and better at bats, while minimally cutting into the combined power, which would take this offense to the next level. Dubon adds one of the best bat to ball hitters in baseball, with one of the lowest whiff rates in the league. A perfect bench bat to pinch hit when you need the ball in play. And with his positional versatility, he can pinch hit for nearly anyone.
And while many of you will say "Sox won't spend that kind of money, you projected 3 deals that would be their 3 largest contracts in team history", I think they will spend a lot. With my projected moves, their salary would sit around $195M. That includes half of Castillo's and Benintendi's contracts. If they get teams to eat those in full, these same moves would have them somewhere around $165M. For context, their payroll in 2022 was around $193M. And that was before Ishbia was here and willing to inject cash.
If you made it this far, let me know what you think.
That's how you know that team is full of fucking losers. Mocking the team they trailed 90% of the season that's primarily rookies and 2nd year players. Aside from the White Sox STADIUM STAFF, I don't recall anyone on the Sox talking any shit about Cleveland this year. I can't wait for Tampa to kick their teeth in.

Might sound harsh but I’m done defending Colson. Trade him for some pitching help
I don't give a fuck if the teams young, I don't give a fuck if nobody expected them to be here, I don't give a fuck about any of the bullshit people are going to say to tolerate this. To lose 3 straight when winning the first 2 games on the road, striking out 52 times in those 3 losses including 21 Ks in the last game, and getting shutout and looking completely dead in the final nail in the coffin is completely unacceptable.
Shomon should lose his fucking job. Every hitter the last 2 games looked like they had NO plan at the plate. They looked like they never faced any of these pitchers, not like they're division rivals that they've faced 10+ times each this season. They got cocky after winning 4 straight and never cared to make an adjustment. They failed the fanbase that hung around after decades of SHIT.
I gave Getz the benefit of the doubt at the deadline for not adding more pitching, but that's over. If he doesn't add 2+ GOOD SPs going into next season, then he's failing this fanbase too.
And now we head into a lockout where the players can't even work with coaching when Colson, Braden, Teel, Mune, and others desperately need to relearn how to attempt to make contact and half the pitching staff needs to learn what the strike zone is.
Save your optimism for the day the MLB and players shake hands, bc from here on out, it's all fucked.
...And fuck Cleveland and everyone in it, Fuck the Dodgers, and Go Tampa Bay.
I'm getting so much pushback on this but let's be real. It's a better chance than not that either one of these guys will strike out with RISP. If you look at Clevelands 6 run 6th inning, only ONE of their five RBI hits had a >90mph exit velo, and it was the Ramirez grounder to meidroth. You need guys that can put the ball in play in crucial situations and hope it finds some grass. Make the defense make a play.
