I'm troubled so, by highs and lows,
By people's angst and people's woes,
By words so weak and weary-worn,
By honor frayed and disinformed,
While all about the smiles that seem,
To offer hope for our next dream,
Are riddled with smooth talk and fluff,
Inviting hope that's then rebuffed,
We used to honor words we spoke,
But now integrity seems broke,
By insta-gratifying memes,
And all the quick and easy schemes,
My hope and wish for all of us,
For friends and family and the rest,
Is we reclaim our honesty,
And faithfulness with clarity,
We focus on the truth we speak,
Acting with honor, charity.

DON'T LET SPEED and PANIC DERAIL YOUR CAREER STRATEGY
---
"Direction Is subservient to speed," is a quote I heard Rich Roll express on his podcast yesterday.
I feel this is such an important reminder for the clients I work with.
✨ It seems so many people, especially in the throes of career change, are losing sight of their direction because panic has set in.
✨ While I understand the nervousness and anxiety of getting to that next role as expediently and efficiently as possible, I can honestly say this ::
✨ In 28 years working in the career coaching industry, and having navigated several economic and marketplace tsunamis, speed is not a strategy. EVER.
✨ In fact, even in the toughest times, and perhaps especially during the hardest slogs, the clients I have worked with who plodded along strategically and methodically -- even slowly -- through processes that were tailored to their goals, while their 'competitors' were hurrying anxiously about without a solid plan, won the race.
✨ This has been a consistent no matter what throughout the years. Period. Full stop.
✨ Bottom line is take a breath. Consider your job search akin to any other long-term business planning initiative. Put your blinders on, and don't be distracted by the noise all around you.
✨ Don't let your executive mindset and gravitas fall to the wayside just because you feel pressed at all sides when you're suddenly thrust into a new, unfamiliar job search role.
✨ Breathe. Establish a plan. Build meaningful (aka, quality construction, not cheap framework) structure around that plan. Execute that plan.
✨ Now, get started. Be consistent every day. Don't give up, especially on the hardest days. Find a support system to encourage you when you get discouraged. Be hopeful. Your destination is awaiting your arrival!

When I was mentioned in an article written by Law Enforcement Executive, David Stein CFI, recently, I was not only honored, but also impressed with his synthesis of the modern job search complexities and frustrations.
David introduced the article with this message: "A reflection on modern job searching, resume culture, and how algorithm-driven hiring is pushing us to lose sight of authenticity and the human side of our careers."
You can find the full article here: lnkd.in/geAgP4C5
What I most like about it is his leaning into the need to revive the human side of our careers. I definitely think there is a long way for companies, hiring managers, recruiters, et al to go in this regard.
That being said, the individual careerist, job seeker, executive, etc. can take the lead by taking the wheel, or, as David says, by being "the arbiter of (your) own destiny."
This includes figuring out the story you want the resume to tell. First, you may want to sit down with someone to help you determine what you're really searching for and then mold the story around that focus.
David also references the value of 1:1 networking on LinkedIn (with people inside companies that interest you) versus simply clicking and submitting to ads, and being drowned out by the 100s of other 'applicants' doing the same.
Bottom line: this is a really, REALLY well written article that I advise every job seeker, especially those at the management, senior management and executive level, to read.

When the whistle blows, are you still on top?
This seems analogous to the #jobsearch!
We went to a local rodeo a couple of weekends ago, and boy was it exciting. (Please ENJOY the 35-second video, below! 🏇)
I can't help but to link the jolting ride on a bucking horse or bull to that of the wild ride executives and professionals feel when trying to stay in the saddle during a raucous job search.
CHALLENGE ...
✪ More than a couple of my clients recently shared their traumatic experiences being tossed about the job search ring.
✪ They described numerous interviews that ended up with them being thrown off the horse before the 'whistle blew'; and the emotional bruises and bumps they were left with.
ACTION ...
✪ But the good news is, they continued to 'get back up on the horse' to face the chaotic dance of exec interviews.
✪ Not only did they get stronger over time, but they started getting a better knack and rhythm for adapting, with poise and persistence, to the quagmire of interviews and personalities.
RESULT ...
✪ And, in the end, during the final interview before accepting their ultimate new role, 'they were still on top when the whistle blew.'
✪ The practice, the stamina, the bumps and bruises and oft-emotionally violent journey that led to the landing of a new role was not easy; but it was worth it in the end.
✪ They were able to leave the ring with their heads held high, the adrenaline coursing through their veins, and the hope of a better future lining the pathway ahead!

We need more independent thinkers and fewer bandwagon-followers.
This era of AI- and automate-everything is akin to the era of c*vid-masking + va**ing and sheeping that overtook common sense.
⚪ Brains are meant for flexing and thinking and planning and creating.
⚪ Bring back old-school plotting and planning and brainstorming. Scratching out our thoughts on napkins and sinking our teeth into raw vocabulary.
⚪ We need those willing to put their minds through rigor and then come up with blemished, beautifully unique and story-rich results.
Feedback from an AI Executive re: the Value of Hiring a Professional Resume Writer youtu.be/q9QZEWki8Ug?si=GNF4…
There's something about the determination of a Scottie leaning into his instincts with all the passion that his little muscular body can muster.
Imbued by confidence and without distraction or doubt, he bobs and bends as his his paws repeatedly plunge into the clay soil. He digs and digs with the clarity of vision knowing that on the other side is the prize.
His tirelessness resounds amid the blank canvas of the day, amid the heretofore undeveloped Missouri Ozarks field of dreams.
It is in this moment I realize this little Scottish Terrier's zeal is a metaphor for life and work and the landscape that surrounds us. We're often intimidated by the rugged vastness or left deterred by the required energy needed to really dig into our goals and dreams.
But then, something--or someone--ignites a spark, compels us to move, to heave our whole selves into the process. We're suddenly (or not so suddenly) seeing more clearly--our vision sharpened and our minds and bodies activated forward, with the inspired motion that renews our possibility, and refuels our faith.

As we wrapped up a momentum-fueling zoom conversation today, the COO client I was 'interviewing' said, with a certain emphatic jubilance:
"I feel so confident now."
These words not only gave me an endorphin lift, but they also reminded me the value of the executive career storytelling process beyond the end-result, aka, 'resume' deliverable! It's also about shoring up one's confidence, especially amid the seas of oft-turbulent transition.
Thank you to all my clients, from emerging leaders to C-suite executives, for all you do to exhilarate the career writing strategy, and to remind ME of the value of career storytelling!
