A/B testing thumbnails made sense. It's wrapping a present. Everyone ends up watching the same thing. A/B testing videos is literally having no clue what could be in the box lol. Imagine sharing a timestamp?

Small website owners are getting bullied by foreign countries' censorship mandates, don't have access to lawyers who know this area well, and don't know how to handle it. This is why America needs a censorship shield law like the GRANITE Act.

This leaves small websites with a choice of either not servicing an entire state or region, or to shut down entirely due to fear of fines of not complying with age verification laws. This leaves the internet reserved for big tech companies who own or can afford the service.

re "Silence, brand": just to be clear, Valour is a couple of volunteers working since 2020 and paying out of pocket so people have a safe place to exist without the corpos sucking all the fun out of your lives and your data we have no funding, no agenda, and we aren't paid

...discord's goals are aligned with governments here. this gives them a massive excuse to build profiles on their entire userbase, scan private data, and use the "oh the government forced us to!" excuse whenever they want they can now hide behind daddy government forever

these laws also create a moat for discord: small platforms that cannot afford to comply (contracts with facial recognition companies, etc) are pushed out of the market allowing discord to maintain a monopoly in their social media corner
