Some of my thoughts about the surge in AI-generated papers, why this feels like a completely new kind of problem, and what this means for how we evaluate science in biology.

that was a tongue in cheek paper in NEJM back in 2012 and Switzerland topped both charts. still the best way to explain correlation vs causation to anyone
Replying to @NTFabiano
fun fact, the guy who made this chart basically admitted it was a joke. Franz Messerli published it in NEJM in 2012, said himself the whole idea was absurd, and confessed he eats chocolate every day lol
It went viral anyway and has been passed around as “science” for 14 years.

This is the famous 2012 New England Journal of Medicine paper, written half as a joke, and the author admitted he ate chocolate almost every day. Both numbers mostly just track how rich a country is

This sounds like a good book countering simplistic & naive notions.
“So long as we insist that cells are computers and genes are their code,” writes Ball, life might as well be “sprinkled with invisible magic”. But, reality “is far more interesting and wonderful”

Interacting with attractive women makes men stupid.
The researchers found that even a few minutes with the attractive woman was enough to make the students slower and less accurate on the test.
The more attracted they were, the worse their results.
They also studied the effects on women students of being in the company of handsome men, and found the test scores were unaffected.
