बाल रूप में श्री राधा रानी ने अपनी माता कीर्तिदा देवी की रक्षा करने के लिए एक मगरमच्छ रूपी राक्षस का वध किया था।
इस पौराणिक कथा का विवरण इस प्रकार है:
• कथा का प्रसंग: जब श्री राधारानी अत्यंत छोटी (लगभग डेढ़ वर्ष की) थीं, तब उनकी माता कीर्तिदा देवी अपनी सखियों के साथ रावल गाँव के पास यमुना नदी में स्नान करने और जल भरने गईं थीं। बाल राधा वहीं किनारे पर खेल रही थीं।
• राक्षस का हमला: अचानक नदी से एक विशाल और भयानक मगरमच्छ निकला और उसने माता कीर्तिदा पर हमला कर उन्हें गहरे पानी की तरफ खींचना शुरू कर दिया।
• असुर का वध और मुक्ति: अपनी माता को संकट में देखकर नन्हीं राधा रानी ने अपना दिव्य रूप प्रकट किया। उन्होंने अपने छोटे हाथों में एक तलवार धारण की और एक ही प्रहार में उस मगरमच्छ का सिर धड़ से अलग कर दिया।
• श्राप से मुक्ति: वध होते ही उस मगरमच्छ के शरीर से एक दिव्य रूप प्रकट हुआ। वास्तव में वह एक अप्सरा थी जिसे महर्षि दुर्वासा ने श्राप दिया था कि वह मगरमच्छ योनि में जन्म लेगी। दुर्वासा ऋषि ने यह भी कहा था कि जब स्वयं श्री राधा रानी उसका उद्धार करेंगी, तब उसे इस श्राप से मुक्ति मिलेगी। राधा जी का स्पर्श पाते ही वह अप्सरा उनकी परिक्रमा और स्तुति करते हुए वापस अपने लोक लौट गई।
