Graffiti damages businesses, cultural landmarks, and neighbourhood pride. Thanks to vigilant community members and proactive police work, VPD officers arrested three individuals in two separate graffiti-related mischief investigations in Chinatown this week.  Due to timely witness reports, police were able to catch offenders in the act and seize multiple cans of spray paint as evidence.  Protecting businesses, preserving cultural spaces, and addressing vandalism remain priorities for the VPD. To see more about how VPD Cst. Freddy Lau is helping, check out Project Muralize @VanPoliceFnd #Chinatown #VPD

Always a pleasure to join in another productive meeting, Eddy! 🏳️‍🌈
Another productive meeting with the @VPDDiversity Sexual Orientation & Gender Diversity Liaison Committee. We covered a lot of ground and completed the agenda right on time (a first). It's an honor for members of our community to have a seat at the table and discuss important matters directly with VPD. Many thanks to Inspector Michelle Torvik, Staff Sgt. Chad McRae, Detective Cst. Kat Dauncey, and Diversity Coordinator Taylor Keen for attending. And a special welcome to our guest, Simon Authier, VPD Legal Counsel, who was keen to learn more about the issues we discuss. And last but not least, thanks to support dog Charlie, who took great interest in the treats we had on offer.

It was VPD Family Day today, and a chance for us to recognize the important role our families play in our work. Policing is not a 9-to-5 job. The demands of this profession can affect the whole family, from missed dinners and weekends to the worry that comes with knowing your loved one may be called to a difficult or dangerous situation. Our families make sacrifices, offer support, and understand the commitment that comes with serving Vancouver. Their encouragement helps our officers and civilian professionals do their jobs and be there for our community.

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Vancouver Police Department and the city we serve. For the first time since 1978, the #VPD will be able to fully develop the next generation of police officers from the day they join us through graduation and into their careers. Our new Police Academy will provide specialized, hands-on training to prepare recruits for the complex challenges of modern policing, including mental health and addictions, vulnerable populations, violent and organized crime, cybercrime, and public disorder. It allows us to develop recruits using the experience of Vancouver Police officers and to integrate classroom learning with realistic scenarios based on the challenges our members face every day. We want our officers to meet—and exceed—provincial standards and be ready to serve Vancouver from their very first day on the job. The success of this Academy won’t be measured by the facility. It will be measured by the quality of the officers who graduate from it. @VPDRecruiting

🦭🦭🦭 Three seals of approval. Last Monday, three rehabilitated harbour seal pups made their triumphant splash back into the wild off Bowen Island. This heartwarming return was made possible thanks to an ongoing partnership between @VAMMRS and the Vancouver Police Department Marine Unit. Teamwork keeps our local coastal wildlife safe.

Today, as the Pulling Together Canoe Journey comes to an end, we reflect on the connections, stories, and spirit that have been carried along the way. May these teachings and connections continue into the future and be passed on to the generations to come. A massive thank you to everyone who made this journey possible, from the Host Nations for their overwhelming hospitality, to the Elders who shared their wisdom and knowledge, and to all the organizers, participants, volunteers, and supporters who worked together to make the journey run so smoothly. It has been an incredible journey filled with connection, learning, culture, and community! 💛 @VancouverPD
