โFrom what I was told, you do not underestimate them. Their hunger isโฆ. relentless.โ
Her ears kept flicking and turning every direction, she could hear something digging through the rock and dirt of the gorge walls.
Then be on your guard.
( she could be wrong, but a darkness like this was unlike anything she had seen before in her long life, which was exactly what was said to describe the void and its creatures )
โ. . Have you heard of the void?โ
She uttered softly, ruffled feathers giving a slight twitch as she held her daggers between her fingers.
โI know all the animals, this is none of them. You keep watch on our behind.โ
Her guard was all the way up, eyes glowing much brighter as the dark seemed to snuff out all natural light.
โDo you sense anything?โ
She will have it her way, and nothing less. Soon, the gorge became unnaturally dark, the feathers on her wing fluffed out in caution.
โThereโsโฆsomething here. I donโt recognize the scent, but I donโt think itโs a demonโฆ.itโs definitely not human.โ
Then he needs to work on his patience if he wants to travel with her. Do as she says, not as he wants. Xayah throws another dagger into the wall while they move through the gorge, the area slowly getting darker.
โNot yet, but donโt tell me to lead and try to immediately take over. Thatโs stupid.โ
Her eyebrows furrowed as she quickly and quietly stepped past him, talons effortlessly moving past cracks and rocks.
Scoffing, she threw a dagger forward, pinning his waist cape to the ground and effectively stopping his movement.
โDonโt be foolish.โ
Her nose wiggled as she sniffed the air, nothing too suspicious or unusual in the area. But shadows never carried a scent.
โIโll take note when we are done. I have great memory.โ
To keep tabs of where theyโve been, she threw a feather dagger into the rock wall.
โLetโs keep moving.โ
โI think youโre the only one foolish enough to think Iโd do that.โ
( she huffed, allowing him to walk past her while she looked up, not much light was able to reach down here )
โPlease. Tell me one time that Iโve ever looked at you like that.โ
( she scoffed, tugging her wing around her body with an eyeroll )
( her body cut through the air like a bullet before her winged cape suddenly flared out and acted as a parachute , slowing her descent to the bottom )
You do.
โBecause you stare at me like Iโm a new star, every time you see me.โ
She looked over her shoulder at him with a deadpan stare before she nonchalantly stepped off the edge of the gorge.
โPlease, we both know I do that without even trying.โ
She scoffed, rolling her eyes while approaching the edge of the gorge, looking down at the depths below.
โNever. Thereโs nothing to be nervous about.โ
She exhaled calmly, glancing at the human once he was beside her before looking ahead again - seeing the terrain change slightly as they approached the gorge.
She wasnโt sure why, but hearing him admit that he missed her made her ears stand straight upโ a few feathers fluffed out as a bit of pink dusted her cheeks.
Xayah was quick to recover however, taking a deep breath and each ear twitched , shaking it off.
โNervous?โ
โHm. Youโve been busy.โ
With that being said, she turned back to face forward.
โIt is nice to see you.โ
