In Super Mario Bros., the sprite for the hammers thrown by the Hammer Bros. looks suspiciously similar to a small version of a Bullet Bill. An officially licensed 1986 Japanese gamebook subscribes to that interpretation and depicts the hammers as Bullet Bills on sticks.
