One of the dangers of social media is that people's sins are multiplied as they spread to more and more people.
Our social media feed will be evidence for or against us on the Day of Judgment.
We "will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word" - Jesus

PSA: In this off-the-cuff conversation, I misspoke (strange, I know). LATE-second/early-third century is what I meant. I'm sure this will instantly assuage the concerns of my peadobaptist friends, since it completely undermines the point I was making... actually, wait... 😎

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
— Jude 3
One interesting aspect of this passage is the use of “the faith” as a reference to the doctrines of Christianity. These doctrines, there and then, still during the 1st century, had ALREADY been delivered to the saints. “…the faith that WAS once and for all delivered to the saints.” That is, any novel doctrines or dogmas that were not widely known to Christians in the time of the apostles are simply not part of the necessary doctrines of Christianity.
The bodily assumption of Mary is one of them. Purgatory is one. The idea that marriage is a sacrament is one. The papacy is another (or even the idea that Rome had a single bishop over the region). Icon veneration is one. Even the concept that Mary was born without the stain of original sin was not in the record of apostolic teaching nor was it a generally held view, as far as we can tell. Yet many of these things are taught as if you must believe them or suffer the fires of Hell.
Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox tend to claim they are merely preserving first century doctrines that were universally known to the church fathers and were taught by Jesus and the apostles. But a study of Scripture or the earliest bits of church history show they have many innovations and new dogmas. That is, history, while it isn’t Protestant, isn’t RC or EO, unless we massage and edit it to make it fit.
Go to the text. Go to Scripture. And if you study people who were born hundreds of years after Jesus then study them as secondary sources and read them well enough to not quote mine them for purposes they didn’t conceive of.

There are no obstacles between you and the Son which can be overcome by praying to the Lady of Lourdes.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
— 1 Timothy 2:5
Jesus is the only mediator and inserting other mediators, no matter how matronly they seem, is an affront to the person and work of Jesus. It fabricates obstacles between you and Jesus that diminish your awareness of the incarnation and sacrifice of Jesus.
Draw near through Jesus. Come to Father through Jesus. No one loves you more. No one is more accessible or able to intercede for you better. Come in Jesus’ name, not in the name of another who you hope will accept you more quickly than Jesus and incline Christ’s heart toward you. He’s already told you “come to me you who are weary and heavy laden.”
Our Lady of Lourdes, the Immaculate Conception, Mother full of love, we entrust to you our most urgent personal intentions, especially those of the sick and suffering. We entrust to you our living and deceased loved ones. We pray that you will remove all the obstacles that still separate us from your beloved Son. May He may reign in all hearts. Amen. #ApostolicJourney #France

What an article! “The spirit of abortion sacrifices children because they will require pain and discomfort. The heart of God sacrifices himself to save his people in the full knowledge that they will still sin and grieve him…”

Abortion says, Not mine! God says, Mine!
Abortion says, Abhorred! God says, Beloved!
Abortion says, I won’t! God says, I will!
Abortion says, Cut off! God says, Grafted in!

Last night my small group from church was discussing when to assign the label “demonic” to something. I hesitate to overuse the term out of fear I’m being presumptuous. But failing to use it at all can be blinding.
That said… This is demonic and the activity of Satan.

As mere memorialist, we were not compelled to administer the Lord’s supper weekly.
When we became convinced that the Lord Supper is also a means of grace by which Christ is really, spiritually present with his covenant people to communicate to us the benefits of our redemption, we immediately changed to weekly administration.
Persuaded thusly, why would we ever withhold the grace, power, and presence of Christ from his needy church?

What an article!
“As with Jesus’s other miracles, healing lepers is a sign of who he is (God in the flesh) and why he came—to give his flesh for the life of the world. The greatest scandal of the Gospels isn’t skin against skin but skin for skin.”
My autoimmune skin disease is painful, but it has deepened my love for Jesus and my understanding of the gospel.

🌍 Many Christian families in the Global North have multiple copies of Bibles throughout their home. For most families across the Global South, buying one Bible would cost half of their monthly food budget. Would you help us give Bibles to families such as these?

So apparently I’m embroiled in some sort of controversy. Let me set a few things strait:
1. I don’t know Sam Allberry personally. We've met in-person a total of once — back in January while I was in Nashville when I did the Shawn Ryan Podcast, where I ran into and took a picture with Sam. When I saw the news initially about his removal from leadership I took that picture down. I had already started to see people commenting that by keeping it up I was implicating myself in his sin. I do not think they were correct. But ironically, said comments were then replaced with ones telling me that by taking it down… I was hiding something and implicating myself in his sin. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
2. I believe the language in the current public statements to be potentially unhelpfully vague. From my (brief though not uninformed) understanding of the details of the situation, what Sam did that disqualified him from leadership was not due to sexual or even a romantic impropriety, but what could best be described as a sinful emotional attachment. This is not to justify it or say that it wasn't disqualifying (I think it probably was). But the lack of clarity has left room for those who desire to gossip, defame, and sinfully speculate online to run wild — which they have.
3. I am genuinely saddened with the internet’s desire to tear down and jump to harsh judgements regarding another Christian’s failing. When someone falls into sin, those who are spiritually mature should work toward their restoration, approaching them with a spirit of gentleness (Gal. 6:1-2). The motivation for restoration carries spiritual weight. Bringing someone back who has wandered from truth saves their soul from death and covers a multitude of sins (James 5:19–20). This isn’t merely about correcting behaviour, it’s about spiritual rescue. The desire to gossip and breed quarrels, which is so obviously warned against in scripture (Proverbs 17:19; 26:17; 2 Timothy 2:14, 23-24; Titus 3:9-11; James 4:1-2) is, to say the least, lamentable and disappointing to see.
4. Sam Allberry is being labelled as “Side B,” this is genuinely confusing to me. To quote Sam in his own words: “Same sex attraction is not a good thing. It is... a consequence of the fall. ...This kind of attraction is not something God designed for us, and it contradicts his design” (Is God Anti Gay, 63). Sam has expressed in multiple places throughout his written work and public talks that he holds to the biblical position of marriage, that homosexual relationships are sinful, and that identifying as a “gay Christian” is incompatible with scripture. To be clear, I don't agree with Sam on all the nuances of how he discusses the issue. But I can only conclude that this attempt to make him into an LBGT advocate comes from either shear ignorance of his public work or some sort of internet-level frothing of the mouth to jump on whoever “we don’t like this week.”
But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. - Heb 3:13.
