No Veteran should be laid to rest alone. Yesterday, Navy Veteran Anthony Smith, who served in Vietnam, was laid to rest at Crown Hill Federal Cemetery in Indianapolis. Though Mr. Smith passed away without family, his fellow Veterans and community stood beside him. With nearly 100 motorcycles present, riders and other guests gathered to honor his life, his service and his memory. Thank you to everyone who ensured Mr. Smith received a farewell with dignity, respect and gratitude. Rest easy, shipmate. You are not forgotten.

Creative Writing for Veterans Numerous studies have shown that writing creatively, with no expectations and few rules, is a wonderfully healthy and positive way to spend an hour. Come join us for an hour a week to write, create, explore, and reflect. Every session will consist of an opening short reading and conversation, an assigned writing prompt (designed to inspire creativity and thought, not to shape content), plenty of writing time, and an optional sharing and reflection time. No homework. No experience or prior education background is necessary, and you can write any way you’d like: with a keyboard, or with a pen. Dates: October 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9 (five one hour sessions, once a week), Mondays, 7-8 PM. Online. Facilitator: Dr. Andrew Levy, Cooper Chair in English, Butler University, and graduate students in creative writing (who are themselves veterans or family) from the Butler MFA program. For more information, contact [email protected]
