On 8–9 October, our Director, Kunle Olulode, and Deputy Director, Dr Sharmin Shajahan, attended the closing event of the Comic Relief Global Majority Fund (GMF) Phase III. The event brought together Intermediary Technical Partners (ITPs), funders and partners to reflect on the Fund’s journey, share learnings from the past three years and explore what comes next.
The programme included reflections from ITPs, presentations from Fund Reference Group members, and findings from the Phase III evaluation conducted by learning partner Curiosity Society. Dr Sharmin also led a discussion on influence and advocacy, exploring how the sector can build on the progress made and sustain its impact. The event concluded with a reception bringing together funders and the wider Comic Relief team, while day two focused on health and wellbeing.
The Global Majority Fund was a £5.3 million pooled fund established by Comic Relief and its co-funders to provide flexible, multi-year core funding to ten Global Majority-led organisations, including Voice4Change England (V4CE).
The Phase III evaluation explores what happens when communities closest to injustice are trusted with power, resources and decision-making. For V4CE, this flexible funding has supported the digitalisation of our systems, the delivery of 45 tailored workshops and one-to-one mentoring for grassroots organisations, and a shift towards more data-driven advocacy.
The evaluation captures the learning and experiences of all ten organisations, highlighting what becomes possible when funding is rooted in trust and sustained over the longer term.
As we look ahead, V4CE is committed to keeping the momentum going by bringing Phase III ITPs together and creating opportunities to stay connected online, share learning and continue building on the Fund’s legacy.

AI can do more with less. But at what cost?
Our BME VCSE Sector Mapping Report 'Built on Trust, Starved if Resources' found that 59% of surveyed organisations are currently using AI. But as charities turn to AI to ease capacity pressures, we must ask: is it empowering the sector or is it just masking deeper issues of underfunding, bias and accountability?
In our latest blog, we explore the charity sector's AI dilemma and why efficiency must never come at the expense of people, trust and equity.
