#ICYMI Very proud moment Monday when we announced our new Prohuman AI Initiative pillar: Healthcare. We have been working hard on a framework for expanding healthcare access and lowering costs through utilizing AI in healthcare in safe and innovative ways through our regulatory sandbox program within our Office of AI Policy (OAIP). We are incredibly grateful for the leadership of Dr. Zachary Boyd, OAIP director and his team, along with the teams at @Intermountain and @UofUHealth led by their talented and visionary leaders Rob Allen and Dr. Bob Carter MD PhD. We are also grateful for the partnership of many experts from across the country who are part of our external advisory network and our third party evaluators. Finally, we're grateful for the support and leadership of key legislators Senator Kirk Cullimore and Rep David Shallenberger in this endeavor. #Utahleads #utahtech #healthcareAI

Another rollout of an action of @GovCox's Prohuman AI initiative, this one on the "Effective State Government" pillar. The purpose of this executive order is to: 1) Promote responsible AI use within government by utilizing Utah's Pro-Human AI Initiative principles to evaluate AI tools; 2) Designate procedures for the Department of Government Operations to lead the state in the use of AI-driven process improvements, choosing tools that adhere to Pro-Human AI principles; 3) Invest in the state workforce by providing training and upskilling opportunities that equip employees to grow alongside AI, prioritizing the development of state employees; 4) Provide a framework for agencies to improve services through the deployment of citizen-facing tools, while establishing guardrails and technical safeguards to protect state data; and 5) Establish agency responsibilities to adhere to Pro-Human AI principles, maintain transparency, complete AI literacy training, and evaluate opportunities to responsibly optimize processes using AI technology. Once again, Utah leads out in establishing a forward-thinking and balanced approach to AI in state government. Marvin Dodge @JeffersonMoss #utahleads #utahtech #stategovernment #effectivegovernment
AI is a generational opportunity to make government work better for the people we serve: faster services and less time spent navigating bureaucracy. But technology should always serve people, not the other way around. Today I signed an executive order establishing Utah’s Pro-Human approach to AI in state government. We’re embracing innovation while protecting privacy and investing in our workforce. The choice between innovation and safety is a false one. Utah will lead on both.

Tomorrow, Utah is coming together to read. More than 275,000 people are taking part in a statewide read-a-thon on Oct. 2. Hundreds of schools are joining in, along with libraries and businesses across the state. Abby and I invite you to join us for an hour of reading, wherever you are. Our kids need to see that reading matters to us, too. Pick up a book and help them build a habit that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

America must lead to ensure AI is controlled by humans and not the other way around
America should lead the world in developing artificial intelligence, and that leadership must keep people firmly in control. I’m calling on Congress to establish a consistent national framework for the development of frontier AI. It should require serious safety incidents to be reported, protect those who raise credible concerns, ensure independent evaluation of the most capable models and prevent powerful AI chips and enabling infrastructure from being sold to China. We can build the world’s most advanced AI here in America while ensuring it remains firmly in service of humanity.

Every dollar matters. Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing found a way to take on new responsibilities without adding staff or asking for more funding. By restructuring its existing team, the division implemented SB 330 while maintaining customer service and avoiding approximately $60,000 in ongoing costs each year. The reorganization also created clearer team structures, strengthened communication and increased employee engagement. That’s GRIT: finding better ways to deliver for Utahns with the resources we already have.

Curious about the details of the settlement with @Meta? I break everything down here with @MariaShilaos from @KSL5TV along with the specific allegations of our lawsuit. But to sum up, here are the features Meta must implement for our kids: --Age verification --Nighttime blocks --Time limits --Taking breaks --Notification blocks during school hours --Option for non-targeted feeds --Blocks against harmful content These are features Meta could have implemented long ago, but chose not to in order to protect their profits instead of kids. #meta #socialmedia #Utahleads youtube.com/watch?v=D1DYFeVZ…

Our @UtahDCP is grateful for the representation of the The Office of the Utah Attorney General in our lawsuit against Meta, taken under the direction of @GovCox, who for years has led the nation in calling out the harms of social media for minors. Governor Cox's leadership and his decision to join this momentous settlement after our hard fought legal battle will set the future for kids on social media. @UtahCommerce #utahleads #tech #socialmedia
In a 47-state settlement joined by the Office of the Utah Attorney General, Meta will pay up to $12.2 billion and accept hard limits on how its platforms target kids: a two-hour daily cap, school-day and overnight blocks, and stronger age checks. Utah's share: $212 million.

This is a huge win for Utah. In January 2023, @govcox led the nation in announcing that Utah would sue social media companies for their harms to kids. 8 months later, our @UtahDCP announced it was suing Meta. We are so proud of the work we’ve done to get to this historic settlement which will protect kids and teens for generations. But be clear, Meta could have made all of these changes in its platforms without being forced up against a wall—but they consistently chose profits over people. #utahleads #bigtech
For years, we’ve said Big Tech must do more to protect our kids. Today, Meta agreed to do it. $12.2 billion. Age checks. Time limits. Nighttime blocks. Stronger parental controls. Independent oversight. Utah's children come before profits.

Kudos to our Division of Public Utilities and Office of Consumer Services for their hard work on this proposed settlement
Utah has some of the lowest electricity rates in the nation, and keeping them that way matters. This proposed settlement helps preserve that advantage by providing rate certainty for families and businesses, strengthening accountability, and supporting the investments needed to keep our electric grid reliable. I’m pleased to see all parties come together after months of hard work to find common ground. The Public Service Commission will now conduct its independent review, but this proposed agreement is an encouraging step for Utah families and businesses. More here: fox13now.com/news/politics/r…

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Raise US as part of our Prohuman AI Initiative’s workforce empowerment pillar—together we will work to ensure Utah’s workforce is resilient and its training and educational infrastructure is agile to respond to the new challenges and opportunities coming with AI
We won’t accept a future where AI leaves workers behind. That’s why Utah launched the Pro-Human AI Initiative: to make sure technology empowers people instead of replacing them. We’re bringing together employers, educators, and government to help Utahns build new skills, prepare for the jobs of tomorrow, and ensure innovation creates more opportunity, not less. As part of that work, we’re partnering with @raiseus_ai to test new ideas that put workers first and help more people succeed in an AI economy. The future belongs to the states that invest in their people. More here: washingtonpost.com/technolog…

Over the past several years, our @UtahDCP has worked with the @UtahAG to secure over $600 million for Utahns for the harms caused by actors across the "value chain" of opioid distribution, causing a multitude of devastating addiction, death, and heartbreak. But the perpetrator most culpable was the Sackler family, owners of Purdue pharmacy, the originator of prescription opioids. This family single-handedly wreaked untold havoc on the American society--they knew their product was addictive and they knew it was harmful, and they also knew it was very, very profitable, and so kept raking in the billions. Reprehensible behavior of the darkest variety. This $7.4 billion settlement, now fully in effect, finally gets to some sense of justice for the Sackler family. #opioids #justice
The $7.4 billion Purdue/Sackler Opioid Settlement is now in effect. Utah is expected to receive $55 million from this settlement, bringing our total secured opioid settlement funds to $616 million. Learn more: commerce.utah.gov/2026/05/04…
