Happy to see @TheCrimeReport lifting up our work supporting thousands (soon to be millions) of people navigating the criminal legal system!
A new smartphone app has changed the lives of many system-involved people, linking POs & their clients, to get the resources they need and to comply with terms, writes @LSonnenberg796 for TCR detailing @UptrustOfficial's latest software. ➡️Read More: thecrimereport.org/2022/02/1…

Did you know that in the #BayArea, people who live in West Oakland can expect to live on average of 10 years less than those who live 7-miles away in the more affluent Berkeley Hills?

...Roughly 40% of individuals navigating the criminal legal system have a chronic illness and going to jail / prison only makes things worse (and can often be avoided)." @jacobrsills CEO & Co-Founder, @UptrustOfficial
#Reform can look different when it comes from the outside, from the inside, and from the bottom. I would challenge us to be the voice for that reform. We need to be driving the conversation about what the field should look like. - President, Brian Lovins @bkwinstin at @APPAinfo

The argument that releasing more people pretrial will lead to spikes in crime is simply false, our review of the 13 jurisdictions with pre- and post-reform data suggests: prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/1…

Our innovative technology contributes to shifting supervision culture. Folks on supervision, like Mr. Tatro was, are asked how their PO can best support them rather than just potentially self-incriminating questions like "have you used substances?"
I’ve been on parole for almost 4 yrs. Not once have they ever asked me, “Mr. Tatro, how can we help you be successful.” But they always ask, “have you had police contact?,” “have you drank alcohol?,” or “have you used drugs?” All those questions lead to prison, not help.

We stress to our probation partners that a culture change is only possible when they shift the focus from catching failure & filing violations, to supporting clients & promoting supervision success.

We are honored that Mashanda was willing to share her story with us. The criminal legal system is a mess of convoluted & dehumanizing processes. We appreciate @NotImpossible's choice to recognize our efforts to demystify those processes and humanize the experience. Thank you!
Commitment Award winner, @UptrustOfficial developed a platform that helps people navigate & successfully exit the criminal justice system by connecting them with their public defenders & sending personalized reminders at important junctures. bit.ly/uptrust
