The legacy of Black feminism, both as political praxis and way of thinking, offers us many methods of approaching and imaging society and the world at large. This course will introduce you to several discussions within the field of black feminism, as well as many texts written through its lens and influence. In our investigation we will repeatedly consider arguments for the liberation of black women; how thinkers have theorized voice, power, violence, embodiment, and community; and what black feminism has to say about human relations to systems, technology and the environment. Potential authors include: Saidiya Hartman, Toni Morrison, The Combahee River Collective, Kimberlee Crenshaw, Sylvia Wynter, NK Jemisin, Angela Davis, and Octavia E. Butler. Spring 2023.
