P1 IN UNLIMITED CLASS! 🏆⚡
Unplugged Performance wins the inaugural Petersen Time Attack at Willow Springs Reimagined 2026!
From Turn 1 to Turn 5 on Big Willow, against a field of legendary supercars.
Huge thanks to Tesla, the Petersen Museum, Willow Springs International Raceway, and everyone who made this possible.
We’re ready to build Space Cabs!
While we’re at it @UpfitTesla Space Patrol too!
Am I crazy?
Here's my theory: new Tesla Roadster deposit holders (myself included) may be funding the dawn of personal space transportation, the same way the original Roadster buyers funded the EV revolution here on Earth. There is a beautiful symmetry in that story arc.
Let’s start with the incentives. Would Elon point his top SpaceX and Tesla talent at thrust-based propulsion purely as one of the world’s most epic stunts? Maybe! It is badass. But Elon plays the long game better than any entrepreneur alive, and he's the world’s most efficient capital and talent allocator.
Elon’s track record is unbeatable when it comes to aiming every bit of energy at a specific high leverage inflection point in the future. It always has a theme of helping humanity. Why would we bet this would somehow be different? A short term fun side quest? Are we sure? Doesn’t sound like Elon.
The new Roadster is the craziest car ever built. Set aside the record breaking craziness and look at the engineering choices: obsessive weight reduction, high-volume COPV tanks, insanely precise avionics. Now strip off all the earth going road gear. Imagine a limited production run of road cars leading towards and funding a SpaceX-only variant that keeps the production line humming long into the future. Those future ones are not designed to ever be used on Earth's gravity. Get it under 1,000 kg and even modest thrust gets interesting. At 50 N of thrust, you could cover something like 200 km in about an hour moving between nearby points in orbit.
You'd be in a space suit, sure, but it's a personal vehicle that actually gets you places. Dragon and Starship would handle launch, reentry, and the long haul. This is the high volume, cheaper to build local ride. A space Cybercab for short trips.
Then add a SpaceX charging network on the Moon. Electricity for driving on the surface, and propellant only when you need thrust. If that works, a space Cybertruck and Robovan would be the next step.
Or maybe it's just a super epic car to showcase engineering as inspiring magic meant to make the next generation of engineers to take bigger swings. I signed up for that as a reservation holder, and I'm proud to support that.
But what if it's something more and we are all too fixated on the shiny object in front of us to not see the bigger picture?

Here is the lap video! Tesla Model S Plaid, official lap time from @JEVRA_jp , @HJitosho_racing , returning champion, laps Tsukuba in under 1 minute, on normal steel belted road tires (A052). I verified by @fastestlaps (email submission already sent), this is a new record!
🏆🇯🇵

As this race happens, understand we’re running a mass produced sedan with factory power/firmware. With @FromWhereICHG at the wheel. Look at the competition and stay tuned for the result. We took Dark Helmet out of retirement for one more mission.
Model S Plaid Dark Helmet is up against some serious competition today!
McLaren Senna, Gordon Murray T50, Aston Martin Valhalla, Porsche 918, and Hennessey Venom just to name a few.
@UnpluggedTesla @FromWhereICHG
Today, we have a flying car.
Thank you, Tesla, for creating a machine this magnificent and for a launch event that matched it.
Ad Astra.
