Seeing a few calls for a return to Merry Hill. #wba Can't see that being cost effective as a long term thing but running a pop up shop there during key periods, i.e. July/August for kit launches, pre-Christmas and March/April for an end of season sale, might be viable.
We can confirm our retail stall at West Bromwich Indoor Market, the Albion Alcove, will close permanently on Saturday, October 17. 🔗 wba.co.uk/news/albion-alcove…

PSA. A couple of posts have appeared on the #wba hashtag referencing safeguarding complaints to the Premier League. I asked Grok to assess the account making these seemingly serious allegations and it came up with this.

Ian Hill, legendary bass player, longest serving member of metal titans, Judas Priest, and life-long Baggie, has sadly been forced to announce his retirement from the band for health reasons. #wba While our noisy neighbours have played heavily on their connections to local rock and metal greats; Black Sabbath (Villa), Led Zeppelin (Wolves) and ELO (Blues), we, for reasons I genuinely cannot fathom, have never made anything our own links to Ian and Judas Priest. Ian doesn't even merit a mention on the 'famous fans' page of our club website, an oversight I'd hope the @wba admin will be correcting in the very near future. I've posted on here before that I strongly believe that recognition of our beloved club's links with Ian and Judas Priest is long overdue. We should be, at the very least, be marking his retirement by inviting him and his family to the Hawthorns as an honoured guest of the club and, of course, choosing one of the band's classics to become a regular feature of the pre-match playlist at our home games... ...although, out of deference to Adrian Goldberg, who appears to find AC/DC a bit much, maybe not 'Painkiller'. Have a happy retirement, Ian, and one that affords you many more opportunities to join us at the shrine. @judaspriest @wba @shilensays

Boinging banned in Bochum. #wba
German club Bochum have banned supporters from rhythmic jumping in their stadium. In a statement released on Wednesday, the 2.Bundesliga club announced that, as part of planned modernisation work, an engineering firm had carried out a survey of their Ruhrstadion’s East Stand. The conclusion it reached was that “certain movements by spectators cause strong vibrations that could lead to discomfort, especially for inexperienced stadium visitors.” More from @SebSB nyti.ms/4jagq8d

The evidence that bisexual individuals are more likely to experience intimate personal violence (IPV) than gay or straight people is, not to put too fine a point on it, generally piss weak and riddled with significant limitations including all the usual problems you get with a very limited supply of small scale cross-sectional self-report studies using convenience samples that lack any consistent definitions or measures of IPV, most of which come from a single country, the United States, limiting their generalisability across other countries with differing cultural attitudes to bisexuality. Despite these limitations, several risk factors have been tentatively identified, the most significant one being that being a bisexual female with a male partner. Sexual infidelity is also an identified risk factor - for women - as is being in an open relationship - also for women - and one study also found a direct effect of having either a bisexual male partner or a male partner that views bisexuality in a negative light, and the people on the sharp end of that increase in risk were... ...women. It's almost as if the common factor in all this isn't so much bisexuality as being female but, as I mentioned earlier, the evidence base is rather sketchy and lacking in either well-designed longitudinal studies or credible epidemiological research, so its difficult to draw any strong conclusions from any of this... ...other than that the greatest risk of interpersonal violence is borne by *checks notes* WOMEN. Any ways here's some actual research - pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…
Bi people are more likely than gay or straight people to experience domestic violence, and I have absolutely no doubt at all that is linked to societal prejudices like the assumption that they are actually gay, inherently promiscuous, or somehow romantically untrustworthy & dishonest about their “real” sexuality - all reasons I’ve heard from straight women as to why they don’t want to date bi men. All you’re doing is shutting down discussion of the real impacts of bigotry by pretending anyone has ever tried to force anyone to date anyone they don’t want to. How tedious.

Let's try to lighten the mood a bit. #wba On Friday, Oxford United launched their 'campus collection', reimiagining their traditional home kit as US-style sports shirt. Less than an hour after the launch they had to quickly bin the whole exercise and take the collection off sale for reasons that I'll let you Google but, notwithstanding the avoidable problem that torpedoed Oxford efforts, the basic idea of mapping their traditional colours onto US sports shirts, each of which have very distinctive and different look to a football shirt, is a sound one and a potential source of additional revenue for clubs. So, with the help of ChatGPT, I've done a bit of reimagining of my own and knocked up concept shirts for the four major US sports; Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey and Basketball, based on our current home kit, with each featuring the name and number of a Baggie legend. The question is this the kind of merch our fanbase would be interested in as something different from the usual team kits and training wear? Could a US sports collection bring in extra revenue for the club, were they to commission designs like those below? What do you reckon, Baggies?

Oxford United has apologised and discontinued its “United 93” clothing collection, which was released close to the 25th anniversary of 9/11. United Airlines Flight 93 was among the planes hijacked by terrorists during the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States. Oxford launched its “campus collection,” a range of American-themed clothing, on Friday morning. However, it was hastily deleted following the 10 a.m. launch, as some of the NFL-style shirts in the collection bore the slogan “United 93” on the back. Oxford United was founded in 1893, and was initially known as Headington United. More from @TBurrows16 nyti.ms/3V425QG
