Forty-six years ago today, President Jimmy Carter signed Public Law 96-428, establishing the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site and Preservation District in Atlanta. It was part of my mother’s vision to ensure that the places where Daddy was born, lived, worshipped, worked, and was laid to rest would be protected for generations to come.
For my mother, preservation was never simply about protecting buildings. She understood that preserving these sacred spaces also meant preserving truth, history, and the lessons of the movement.
Today, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park stands as a testament to her vision and to the importance of ensuring that future generations can walk these grounds, learn this history, and be inspired to continue the work.

It was 94° at 10am in Bakersfield CA as workers cut and packed Asian vegetables into produce boxes. This fast paced work in an open field is grueling as it means a lot of bending and by the end of the day workers tell us their back aches. #WeFeedYou

"Ramiro" says, "We’re in the final stretch of the summer strawberry season on CAs Central Coast. We get 3 good months of work. Then in Nov-March, there’s no work. We try to use the little we’ve saved to get through those hard months. It's hard as rent's very expensive. #WeFeedYou
