Dear David Clews and everyone at Unity News Network, Thank you so much for having me on your program, Very Special Guest: Mary Phagan-Kean Joins the Show. ❤️ I truly appreciated the opportunity to speak with you about Little Mary Phagan, my family, and I hope your viewers will consider reading my 2025 book, The Murder of Little Mary Phagan, and learning more about the Mary Phagan case. 📚 I hope your viewers will take the time to read my book and learn about this case from the perspective of the family who actually lived through the murder, the trial, and the long legal fight that followed. The trial was not the end of it for my family. After Frank was convicted in August 1913, the Phagan family had to endure roughly another year and a half of appeals. 🎙️ David, I especially appreciated the purposeful and meaningful questions you asked me. You gave me the chance to discuss parts of this case that are rarely given enough attention and, most of all, to talk about Mary as a real 13-year-old girl whose life was taken from her. For more than a century, Leo Frank’s defenders have too often pushed Mary into the background while making the convicted man the center of the story. I am grateful whenever I have the opportunity to tell my family’s side and bring Mary back to the emotional center of this case, where she belongs. ❤️ I also want to thank the Unity News Network audience. I watched the recording and went back through the live conversation alongside the program. You have an extremely supportive group of viewers and subscribers, and I was deeply touched by the kindness shown to me and to the Phagan family. 🙏 One of the larger points I hope people take away from our conversation is that I see Leo Frank as an early 20th-century prototype of what we might today call the “Epstein Class.” More than 100 years ago, Frank was a well-connected factory superintendent whose conviction for the murder of a 13-year-old girl was followed by an enormous national campaign to save him. Today, there is still an army of Leo Frank supporters online trying to rehabilitate his reputation and convince the public that he was innocent. ⚖️ More than a century later, the fight over his conviction is still going on. The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith has spent decades arguing that Frank was innocent and was involved in the campaign that resulted in his posthumous pardon in 1986. That pardon did not declare Leo Frank innocent. It did not overturn his conviction. It did not erase the jury’s verdict. On April 26, 2019, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced that its Conviction Integrity Unit would reexamine the Leo Frank case. They had the nerve to make that announcement on the anniversary of my great-aunt Mary Phagan’s murder. I strongly oppose the continuing effort to rehabilitate or exonerate Leo Frank. In my view, powerful organizations and advocates have spent more than a century trying to rewrite this case while Mary Phagan, the girl who was actually murdered, and the experiences of her family are pushed further into the background. 🔎 This is one of the reasons I continue speaking publicly and asking people to GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL RECORDS AND READ THEM FOR YOURSELF. Read the original Atlanta newspapers. Read the trial testimony. Read the Leo Frank trial Brief of Evidence. Read the Georgia Supreme Court records from Frank’s appeals. Read the original legal records and primary sources.
