I'm like, you guys are crazy. “A person of his caliber, you're gonna say that he doesn't belong within the team, and he shouldn't be there. You guys are crazy. “Like, people are just so fickle. I mean, it's up and down. It's like they love you when you're at your best and they hate you at your worst, right? “We never want to uplift, and it's like we want the team to be better and to grow, but it’s like, ‘Hey, now we have Christian. He's not performing well. Let's just push him down even more.’ “I mean, that's the complete opposite of what we're supposed to do as a nation, especially for a guy as important as he is. “Like, if anything, we need him even more so, and he needs as much support as possible, because when he's happy and flying and confident and comfortable, we've seen the player that he is and the player that he'll continue to be. “And I know that it's a matter of time and he'll get back into form, and that's all it is. It's just a dip in form, which happens to the best of the best, and he's gonna find his way. No problem. “It’s like you get your first Xbox, right? You're super excited to play. You're so excited, and the next thing you know, the next thing comes, and you get rid of that. And that's kind of how we're treating some of our players. “We have a lot to be excited about, don't get me wrong. I mean, the pool of players that are coming through. “The last window, I mean, it was exceptional to see some of the guys and the age and a lot of promise. And yeah, I mean, we're all excited, for sure. “But does it mean that Christian doesn't belong there, or any of the other guys that weren't present in camp? “So let's not get too ahead of ourselves, but we also got to allow the kids to grow into their roles and grow into being the players that they'll be. “And you almost need to earn your stripes, right? And that's part of it. You got to continually perform and to go. “And like I said, the games will come, and the players will get better, but, you know, we got to earn your right to be there.”
