If the Palestinians wanted peace, they would teach it instead of hate and violence; they would ombat terrorism instead of supporting it; they would build their legitimacy instead of delegitimizing Israel; they would secure territory under their control before demanding more.

It says a lot about the “expert” class that they had to completely redefine what words meant to justify their claims about Gaza. Changed the definition of genocide, famine, and almost every other accusation to justify lobbing them. Now they are utterly discredited. De Waal declared a famine somewhere that received record war zone aid per capita. The result has been a population in relatively better health than many surrounding countries. So now he has to invent a new version of “famine” that relates to some subjective view of dignity instead of objective measurements on food insecurity and malnutrition.

Former US president @BarackObama engages in antisemitic tropes about where Jews are from, accuses Jews (not "zionists") of stealing and gluttony, and says it is "understandable" people would want to take their "land back" (i.e., Palestinian terrorism). xitter.cf/HonestReporting/status…
According to @BarackObama, Jews fled Europe, arrived in someone else’s land and became “excessive.” Conveniently missing: The Jewish people’s millennia-old connection to the Land of Israel and centuries of continuous Jewish presence there. Israel’s legitimacy did not begin with European persecution. Neither did Jewish history.

Apparently Irish Independent somehow replaced expelled with excessive and partially rephrased the (still ignorant) statement…? xitter.cf/HonestReporting/status…
What’s worse? 1. Incompetent Irish media misquoted @BarackObama. Or: 2. What Obama actually said: that Jews “understandably sought a refuge in a place where they had historic ties,” but they “expelled” the people “they took the land off” rather than being “excessive.” That still reduces Israel’s founding to a simplistic story of foreign Jews taking somebody else’s land. One acknowledgment of Jewish history does not make the subsequent distortion any less serious. We have no problem correcting a misquote. But that doesn't change the bottom line: President Obama deserves the criticism that he's received. xitter.cf/HonestReporting/status…

There's something exquisitely ridiculous about listening to the British lecture Israel and Jews on religious equality and democratic citizenship. Israel, the Jewish nation-state, has no established state religion, no religious qualification for its president or prime minister, and no hereditary religious monarch. Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze citizens can vote, serve in the Knesset, hold government office and participate in the country's political life. Israel's Declaration of Independence explicitly promises equal social and political rights to citizens regardless of religion, race or sex. Now, let's visit Britain, that magnificent self-appointed guardian of enlightened democratic values, shall we? 🤡Britain actually has an established church. Not metaphorically. Not culturally. Not because someone hung a crucifix in a government office. An actual church, established by law, with the monarch serving as its Supreme Governor. 🤡Twenty-six Anglican bishops are entitled to seats in the House of Lords simply because they're Anglican bishops. They can debate legislation, propose amendments and vote on laws governing Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Catholics, atheists and everyone else. Do rabbis get 26 reserved seats? No. Imams? No. Catholic bishops? Absolutely not. 🤡England still has a legal requirement for daily collective worship in state-funded schools. In ordinary nonreligious state schools, worship is required to be Christian. 🤡The British monarch must be Protestant and in communion with the Church of England. So the next time someone declares that Israel's Jewish national identity is inherently incompatible with democracy, perhaps they could explain why Britain's formally established Anglican church, constitutionally Protestant monarchy and parliamentary bishops supposedly present no comparable problem. Better still, they could explain why Jewish national self-determination is treated as inherently suspect while Britain's centuries-old religious establishment is waved away as charming tradition. One might almost begin to suspect that the objection isn't really to the principle at all. 🤔

Obviously the ICC won't do anything to diminish its power. Why doesn't the US pressure members to withdraw from the Rome Statute? If no one will enforce its warrants, it has no power.

ChatGPT seems dumb today. * "Is there something else has materially similarity to any of these attributes of X?" → "yes, X has those attributes" * "I mean something *other than* X" → "here are things that are holistically similar to X"

Self-described anti *ism/*phobia people tend to be the most bigoted, in particular against the groups they "support" as soon as members disagree with them. xitter.cf/Undeference/status/158… xitter.cf/Undeference/status/199…
But they always categorize white vs. person of color. They say it's impossible to be racist against white people (and Jews who are cast as white). Hardships of people of color are often presumed to be racially motivated. Anti-racists are often the most racist.

This is written in anger. Today @bbcnews put out a propaganda piece demonising Israel. Think about the timing. October 8. They must have had this one lined up especially. It is not news. It just rehashes old stories without any evidence at all - and it gets worse 1/5

This was Zohran Mamdani only 13 days after October 7. No one could have predicted that this unhinged radical would become New York's next mayor. Israel had not yet launched its ground invasion into Gaza and he was already screaming genocide tnx @mazemoore for that video

GeoConfirmed conflictmap 7OCT23. Exactly three years ago, our volunteers were confronted with emerging information and the first footage coming out of Israel and the border with Gaza. Although it took Western media more than a week to grasp the full scale of what happened on 7 October, our volunteers quickly realised that something horrific was unfolding. While Israel initially provided very little communication about the attacks, Hamas propaganda was operating at full capacity. Many Western audiences encountered the conflict only when the IDF began bombing Gaza, without fully understanding why. This highlights a crucial lesson governments should draw from the conflict: do not allow your adversary to dominate the information environment. While accounts such as Syrian Girl, WarMonitor (Suspended by X in May 2024), along with many others, downplayed Hamas’s role and focused, sometimes through the spread of disinformation, on the IDF, it became increasingly clear to our volunteers what had happened: This was the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel’s history. For this reason, we created a dedicated map of the 7 October attacks, compiling all the geolocated footage we could find: geoconfirmed.org/map/7oct Even today, media outlets often refer to it simply as a “Hamas attack,” but it was far larger than Hamas alone. We identified several militant groups, most of which are designated as terrorist organisations by the European Union. The groups involved included the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing; the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades; the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP); the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades; the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad; the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement; the Mujahideen Brigades; Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ); and others. GeoConfirmed’s footage made clear that these groups operated in their own designated areas. Journalists who attribute the attacks solely to Hamas do not tell the full story. Our team has analysed more than 100,000 videos and other pieces of footage from various conflicts, and some of the most disturbing material we have encountered was recorded during the 7 October attacks. Below is only a small fraction of that footage. More footage is available on our website. THIS FOOTAGE IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. However, we believe it is our responsibility to show the context in which Israel’s response took place. If you notice footage that has not yet been geolocated, or if you have seen footage that is not yet included on the map, please do not hesitate to let us know. This post is not, in any way, an endorsement of how the IDF responded to the attack. As lead volunteer Admin of the GeoConfirmed Project I would like to thank all the volunteers involved once again for their hard work and dedication. THANK YOU! The theory of democracy is that it is a tool to hold rulers accountable to the populace and ensure actions in their interests. But power is the real goal, so rulers' actions are subordinate to their reelection strategy. And the majority of the populace prefers to be complacent.

Brett McGurk, one of the Biden administration’s most senior officials, was interviewed on Dan Senor’s podcast (full disclosure, etc.) and rebutted a long list of claims and myths regarding the hostage deal. It is very much worth listening to, especially given that he served in an administration that clashed with Israel to the point of imposing an arms embargo. Brett McGurk’s five main points about the negotiations to free the hostages: 1. “They could have brought everyone home almost immediately” — McGurk: absolute bullshit According to him, a comprehensive deal in the early stages would effectively have required surrendering to Hamas’s terms, and even then there was no reason to assume Hamas would release everyone. The U.S. assessment was that Hamas intended to hold some of the hostages for years as bargaining chips. 2. The first deal collapsed because of Hamas — and the dispute was over the young women McGurk says Hamas tried to move on to releasing older men while it was still holding young women alive. From Israel’s perspective, agreeing to skip over them could have amounted to a death sentence for those women. Israel therefore insisted on completing that category, and Hamas stopped the releases. 3. Before the Rafah operation, there was no deal that Hamas was prepared to accept According to McGurk, Israel agreed to several very difficult proposals, including the release of prisoners convicted of serious offenses, and Hamas rejected them. Hamas also did not accept the Israeli proposal that Biden publicly announced. McGurk stresses that there was no point before Rafah when a deal was truly within reach. Moreover, Hamas would have waited years before releasing everyone. 4. Biden’s pressure to stop before Rafah was not because Israel had torpedoed a deal According to McGurk, by that stage Biden had simply reached the limits of his tolerance for the war and the regional crisis. The U.S. pushed for a reduction in fighting during Ramadan—a move that McGurk says actually reduced Hamas’s incentive to compromise in the negotiations. 5. Sinwar and military pressure were the key McGurk says that as long as Yahya Sinwar was alive, he saw no realistic possibility of a deal. This includes the killing of the six hostages, an episode that was portrayed here as the government having sacrificed them. The Rafah operation was part of the sequence of events that ultimately led to Sinwar’s killing, and according to McGurk, military pressure was what brought Hamas to the points at which it agreed to deals. In his view, military pressure and a hostage deal were not alternatives—the pressure was the leverage that made the deals possible.

The framing that the US gave the "green light" to Israel to operate over Iraq is misleading but there is a degree of truth to it. The US had extensive restricted airspace in Iraq. Israel is now free to operate according to its objectives without worrying about American forces.
