Three years ago, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso broke with the old regional order and formed the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Since then, mainstream coverage has largely portrayed their governments through the language of military juntas, coups, and instability. But on the ground, a much bigger political transformation is underway.
In our new mini-documentary, BT’s Nairobi correspondent Nicholas Mwangi explains how the AES emerged, why its governments broke with France and the old regional order, and the changes now underway in security, agriculture, infrastructure, and control over natural resources, despite the enormous historical, security, and geopolitical challenges facing the region.

(new book) @gchelwa and I are really happy to give you How the International Monetary Fund Strangles Africa. It's our short book that lays out in great detail how the IMF and its allied agencies (such as Transparency International) work together to undermine the sovereign rights of African states and of the African continent to seek development. The IMF's development policy is the underdevelopment of Africa.
Having laid this groundwork, Grieve and I turn at the end of the book to the institutional imperatives for an African development agenda.

Writing for roape.net, Espérant Mwishamali Lukobo and Sara Geenen argue narratives that portray artisanal Congolese cobalt miners as violent criminals or illegal invaders of industrial concessions make things worse, reinforcing the marginalisation and insecurity that mining communities already face.

Building a socialist state is not merely about taking power; it is about the long, difficult task of resuscitating a society from the backwardness imposed by capital. The path is slow, but it is the only way to an orderly human future.

"Theory becomes a material force as soon as it has gripped the masses. It is capable of gripping the masses as soon as it becomes radical. To be radical is to grasp the root of the matter. But, for man, the root is man himself."

The blockade against Cuba has seen the US repeatedly trample international law. The blockade violates the United Nations Charter and several other treaties, and has consistently been repudiated by the UN General Assembly.
