Gurren Lagaan and Pacific Rim require two people to control one mech. What if i told you real life robot boxing requires something similar.
At Ultimate Fighting Bots, that’s what we’re developing right now.
Every UFB robot has two entities behind it. There’s the pilot and the ghost
The Ghost team's job is to build the fighter. Every punch, kick, stance, and recovery sequence was programmed by the Ghost Team. Before the Pilot ever steps into the ring, the Ghost team has already decided what kind of combatant this robot is going to be.
But here's what makes it a system rather than just two separate jobs. The Pilot works directly with the Ghost team in preparation. They train on the moveset together. The Pilot learns exactly what the robot can do, how it moves, and where its strengths are. By fight night, they've built a working synergy.
Which means every UFB fight you watch is actually two competitions happening at the same time. Ghost team against Ghost team, essentially brains against brains. And Pilot against Pilot
You need to win both to walk out a champion.
Pacific Rim and Gurren Lagaan imagines robot piloting as two minds fusing in real time. But our version is built over months in simulation and in training. And arguably less dangerous. And in Season 2, for the first time, multiple teams of Ghosts and Pilots go head to head for a $100k prize pool and the title of the first UFB Champion in history. Follow UFB and stay tuned.

I just trained my robot to punch and kick. But can it survive an ice floor without falling?
This is Ultimate Bots Studio, and we just released our new update for our training simulator. In Studio, i’m able to train robots to learn new moves and dances. And its what our pilots and ghosts use for our robot boxing fights as well! And i want to put my robot to the test and see if it can survive the different types of floor simulators without falling over.
The robots in Evangelion, Gurren Lagaan and Real steel are piloted by a type of technology that's already real. At UFB, we’re testing that tech on our boxing robots . But the only issue is… it works more like Street Fighter.
Here's why:
Engineers break robot motion control into three tiers.
Autonomous: where the robot decides everything on its own.
Hybrid: you throw a punch command, the robot executes a preset sequence.
1:1 where every movement you make, the robot mirrors in real time.
1:1 control is what Real Steel and Evangelion has. Right now, the entire world of humanoid combat — including UFB — is using hybrid.
Hybrid works and pilots have been able to get some crazy knock downs with it. But if you've ever watched a Real Steel fight, you’ll notice that our robots, are not quite that. YET
The gap between Hybrid and 1:1 is a physics problem, and it all comes down to latency. The moment you throw a punch, a sensor has to read the motion, encode it, transmit it to the system, and tell the robot to replicate it.
On top of that, robot balance is not the same as human balance. If we used motion capture suits and applied that to the robots, every robot would just tip over. Most of human weight is stored in the lower torso, but robots? You’ll have way heavier arms and way heavier hips, completely offsetting the balance of what humans are used to.
Physical AI has been on an insane run. The latency gap is closing. And when someone finally cracks true 1:1 control in live humanoid combat — for the first time in history — it's going to happen on a fight floor, in front of a crowd, on camera. Follow UFB. You'll want to have been watching from the beginning.

If you’re interested in joining a robot boxing team for season 2, make sure you tune in.
We just made some new updates for our Robot training simulator.
This is studio playground, and this is where our best pilots and ghosts work. You can train simulated robots to learn new moves. But the coolest part is you can now test your robots in a simulated cage with real physics and different environments.
You can switch between all these types of floors, but the hardest part is making sure your robot can stay upright no matter what happens. Lets put Default at level 1, and if you teach your robot to do a move on Ice without falling, you’re definitely going to be ready for the championship.
We have pilot sign ups ready on our website so go over there, make some moves, train some robots, and good luck!

Not your typical robot fight night: Robotics builders as pilots, live telemetry read on the action and almost 300K people watching live on twitch. See the recap below 👇
Two weeks ago, we ran @UFBots Fight Night inside @foxglove’s Actuate 26 at Fort Mason - our first fight running completely on Foxglove.
Every robot in the cage streamed live telemetry through the Foxglove Python SDK and recorded everything to MCAP, in front of ~1,500 people in the venue and ~300K watching on Twitch.
One bot went down mid-fight and had to be swapped.
After the show, we opened the recording and asked the new Foxglove Agent what happened. It read the data, built the relevant plots, and explained what it saw. Instead of digging through topics, you just ask.
They had launched Agent that morning. A few hours later, we were already using it on real fight data.
That’s the practical case for Foxglove: live visualization, recordings, search, and now natural-language analysis of robot data in one place.
The bigger picture for us: @foxglove is where we inspect the data. @nebiusai is where we train. At Actuate, both were in the same room.
The fight itself became a dataset.
The next step: fine-tuning on what actually happened in the arena.
And the pilots weren’t hired drivers - they were founders and engineers from @foxglove, @livekit, @LightwheelAI, @antiochrobotics, @Waymo, @nebiusai, with a final between @innate_bot and @OrangewoodLabs.
Thanks @adrianmacneil for having us and congrats on the successful event!

Humanoid robotics is becoming a creative medium.
With Ultimate Bots Studio, a dancer can film a move, upload it, and watch a humanoid perform it minutes later.
Built on @nvidia SONIC + @nebiusai AI Cloud.
Nebius just published the story of how we built it ↓

Last chance to submit the ghost hack applications! Submissions close at midnight 🕛

Great example of what Ultimate Bots teams train. If you want to work with the cutting edge humanoid research and show the world what you are building, on stage - join the ghost hack - applications open on our website 🤖
SONIC now runs on the @AGIBOTofficial X2.
In Ghost Trials with @UFBots we trained a SONIC policy for a new embodiment on the full @TheBonesStudio BONES-SEED dataset. Unitree G1 and Agibot X2 side by side — one dance, two different robots.
Thanks to amazing H100 GPU availability on @nebiusai: 32×H100 with InfiniBand on demand, no reservation, running uninterrupted for days.
