Lots of good reasons to have AVs in the District, and we support CM Allen's goal, but 200 drivers is clearly not right. It’s about 20x that: more than 4,000 drivers live in DC, making Uber/rideshare one of DC's top sources of work. Not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars in driver take-home pay that goes back into the regional economy, including the District's.
While I support Waymo for safety, I wanted to dig deeper on the claim that Waymo will put "countless workers at risk."
The number of District residents who are full-time ride share drivers—by JLG's own admission—is 200.

Since I previously shared how we are scaling AI usage so quickly without costs rising at the same rate, there’s been a lot of interest in the engineering details.
So I asked the team to open up the hood and share what we’ve learned.
One thing we’ve always been very good at @Uber is understanding the economics of a system at a deep level. And I’ve always believed that constraints drive innovation. We took the opportunity to turn the cost problem into an engineering problem. We broke AI spend down into its underlying levers and started systematically attacking each one:
• Scaling vendor-neutral managed agents
• Building Uber SWE benchmarks to measure what actually works
• Optimizing prompt caching
• Making tool and MCP usage more efficient
• Grounding trajectories in our context graph
• Building efficient, reusable agent skills
• Giving engineers real-time cost visibility and optimization tips
There’s a lot more work to do in this space: scaling more autonomous agents, dynamic model routing, a self-evolving context graph, and continuously updating efficient agent skills. There's still a tremendous amount to invent here, and we’ll keep sharing what we learn as we build and deploy it at Uber.
This is an incredible time to be an engineer. The economics of software are changing, the way we build is changing, and engineers have an opportunity to help define what comes next.
Read the deep dive here: uber.com/us/en/blog/efficien… and let us know what you think.
Best way to get to & from MetLife tonight is public transit. Still plenty of NJT tickets available. Uber alone can’t accommodate the demand. Surge pricing and event surcharges will be in effect to encourage more drivers to come into NJ. Plan ahead and take transit if you can!

Big moment! Another @Waymo + @Uber city launch
Important milestone for our partnership, our teams, and most importantly for the city of Atlanta. Autonomous mobility is the future and we're proud to help bring it to the world!
The A is going Autonomous! 🎉 Waymo rides are now live in Atlanta, only on @Uber. Increase your chances of getting matched → open the Uber app, go to settings, and toggle Waymo ride preferences on.

We also dove deeper on Delivery in our slides and prepared remarks, an under-appreciated growth and profitability engine for Uber. Delivery GB ARR has scaled (almost all organically!) to $82B in Q1, while Adjusted EBITDA grew a whopping 45% YOY. In fact, Delivery margins are now only modestly lower than UberX’s, which few would have previously predicted

We were shocked to hear of this abhorrent violence. Uber takes a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, and while there were no reported incidents of violence or anti-semitism on the Uber app, we’re actively supporting law enforcement as they work to identify the offenders.
We’ve released our third US Safety Report, covering the most serious incidents reported on our platform from 2021-2022. Uber continues to be very safe: 99.9998% of the 1.8 billion trips completed during this period ended without any such incident.

It’s also a reminder that our work on safety is never done. That’s why we are expanding industry-leading features like Audio & Video Recording and launching a new Rider Verification program that helps confirm riders are who they say they are. More to come soon.
