Very cool new feature for CourtListener. Congrats to the U.C.S.B. students who made it happen.

What happened today is huge. PACER reform passed the house during last Congress. Now it's headed for a senate vote with a gazillion cosponsors. When this bill passes, it will open up what's probably the biggest paywall in the world.

#UVALaw’s First Amendment Clinic has sued the Department of Justice, again, for release of non-prosecution agreements. This time they’re asking for the full list. bit.ly/3Hqz3iU

After 546 days of stalling on our FOIA request, we filed a complaint against the DOJ. We're trying to unearth a list of all the corporate non-prosecution agreements struck by the DOJ since 2009. Thank you UVA Law First Amendment Clinic, @rcfp, and @Public_Citizen!
So glad this is finally happening!
#UVALaw’s new LawTech Center — which will focus on timely issues relating to law and technology — will be led by Prof. @daniellecitron. bit.ly/3nY6odF

Four years in the making, today we are announcing a new one-of-a-kind database containing the investment and conflict information for every federal judge. Spanning 17 years, this database was extracted from over 250,000 pages of judicial financial records. free.law/2021/09/28/announci…
Well this is cool. The Free Law Project has created a database of federal judicial financial disclosures: free.law/2021/09/28/announci…. And the WSJ is using it in a series of articles, the first of which is here: wsj.com/articles/131-federal…. Nice work Bill and Mike!
We've posted a nifty visualization of data from the Corporate Prosecution Registry here: corporate-prosecution-regist…. Special thanks to Sam Powers for their excellent D3 work!
This feels familiar.

In a former life, we worked in Silicon Valley at Gunderson Dettmer. So it's super interesting to see competitor Wilson Sonsini automating the start-up process (see: wsgr.com/en/insights/wilson-…).
We always enjoy using spaCy (spacy.io/) for NLP projects and are really digging prodigy.ai for marking up texts and building machine learning models. So much less time creating datasets and testing ideas out. Super cool.
If you're looking to jump start your empirical legal research skills, ICPSR is offering a 2 week session titled, "Techniques for the Analysis of Legal and Judicial Data" (see: web.cvent.com/event/2d61258f…)
"The number of federal prosecutions of corporate criminals plummeted to a new low of just 94 in fiscal year 2020..." More discussion of a disturbing trend using Corporate Prosecution Registry data available in this Public Citizen report: citizen.org/article/corporat…
Do you hear angels singing? We do! The BR/MAG Judge Database (legaldatalab.law.virginia.ed…) now has biographical data for all current bankruptcy and magistrate judges, nearly 1000 entries.
