I thought the balance between Mainoo and Tielemans looked really good yesterday. With Santos and Tielemans together, both naturally want to progress the ball, which can result in possession being turned over more often.
Mainoo’s natural instinct is to keep possession and stay in control, but he’s never passive with it. He knows when to hold onto the ball, when to release it and when to suddenly accelerate and break a line himself.
That understanding of tempo is what sets him apart. He just gets it.
