Is it time to talk about the links between Kanakuk & Safe @ Allstar yet? And why Varsity would choose to work with people deeply involved in decades of unreported abuse?
3 years ago, @GretchenCarlson asked me to look into a camp in Branson, Missouri called @Kanakuk where abuse happened, but few knew about it due to their draconian use of NDAs. I didn’t want to look into this, but – knowing children might be at risk – I needed to. /1

Thank you @NBCDFW and @PhilPrazan for featuring @ElizCPhillips on your Lone Star Politics segment last month! As Trey's sister, she founded the #TreysLaw movement, which is rapidly gaining momentum in U.S. Congress this year.
“[Trey’s Law] has been progressing with great momentum led by survivors’ voices and stories…what our U.S. Senate just did by voting this through via unanimous consent, it puts some wind in the sails for survivors, to feel like they are finally being heard." - Elizabeth Carlock Phillips
Just last year, Elizabeth joined Lone Star Politics to talk about the unanimous passage of Trey’s Law in Texas, which went into effect on September 1, 2025. The law makes NDAs void and unenforceable in civil settlement agreements pertaining to child sexual abuse, sexual assault and trafficking cases. It applies to NDAs past, present and future, regardless of the victim's age and regardless of when the abuse occurred. #TruthSetFree
Since this Texas victory, Trey’s Law has been filed in 11 additional jurisdictions and seven states have enacted versions of the legislation. Learn more and join the movement at TreysLaw.org!

The Senate passed TREY’S Law unanimously on May 20, 2026. Seven states have already enacted this bipartisan legislation. But a survivor’s freedom of speech shouldn’t depend on a ZIP code. This law needs to apply nationwide.
The time for the House to act is NOW! Ask your U.S. Representative to urge House Leadership to advance S.3966 to the floor for a vote under suspension of the rules - and help build the momentum to get it passed.
Survivors of child sexual abuse and trafficking should never be silenced by NDAs. Help restore victims’ voices across the U.S. by using yours TODAY!

@Kanakuk chose their insurance coverage over the safety of the campers.
If a renewal contract says you will no longer be naked with kids nor spend one on one time with them especially in hot tubs, what are the chances @joewhitekanakuk knew about the predator in their midst.
I paid for twitter premium so I could upload this entire video— @JessMcMasterKC from @KSHB41 covering our story. To learn more please follow @KanakukFacts.

The last episode of the Shawn Ryan podcast is unbelievable! Hundreds of kids have been molested by employees at Kamp Kanakuk with direct knowledge of Joe White, CEO, of Kanakuk Ministries + leadership. The interview is hard to take in. These people at Kanakuk need to be in PRISON

The Supreme Court grants certiorari in roughly 1% of petitions each term, hearing about 60-80 cases out of thousands filed annually.
This case (No. 25-490) involves a challenge to the Boy Scouts of America's bankruptcy plan, specifically its nonconsensual third-party releases shielding non-debtors (like local councils, sponsoring organizations, and insurers) from abuse claims.
The petitioners argue that the Third Circuit's affirmation of the plan conflicts with the Court's 2024 decision in Harrington v. Purdue Pharma, which prohibited such releases under the Bankruptcy Code, and that mootness doctrines were misapplied to bar review.
Several factors could modestly improve the odds beyond the baseline:
Post-Purdue clarification needed**: The Third Circuit acknowledged the releases would likely fail under Purdue if proposed today but upheld them due to statutory (§ 363(m)) and equitable mootness, citing the plan's substantial consummation and finality concerns.
This raises unresolved questions about applying Purdue to already-confirmed plans, potentially warranting review.
-
Possible circuit splits: Disagreements exist among circuits on whether § 363(m) mootness applies to integrated plan sales (like the insurance buyback here) and the validity of equitable mootness overall, which the Supreme Court has not definitively addressed.
Amicus support: Two amicus briefs were filed in support of the petitioners, including one from retired bankruptcy judge Hon. Eugene Wedoff and others, signaling broader interest.
High stakes: The petition holds up distribution of about $1.5 billion in settlement funds for abuse survivors, affecting thousands of claimants in a high-profile bankruptcy.
That said, the case is at its first conference (January 9, 2026), with no relists yet—relisted petitions have much higher grant rates (around 50-70%).
It's not currently featured on SCOTUSblog's "petitions we're watching" list, which often highlights frontrunners.
Respondents (including BSA and insurers) have filed oppositions, and without strong signals like a call for views from the Solicitor General or more amicus activity, the chances remain low overall—likely in the 5-10% range based on similar bankruptcy cases with doctrinal tensions, though this is an educated estimate without insider predictions available.
