Happy 251st U.S. Postal Inspection Service 🥳!
Today we celebrate the 251st anniversary of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service!
While our tactics have evolved since 1775, our men and women remain dedicated to our mission of protecting the U.S. mail, the U.S. Postal Service, its employees and customers, and ensuring the American people can trust the U.S. mail.
Commitment to our mission will drive us forward for many years to come.
Partnership is our greatest force multiplier. We appreciate our partners @CMPD. Strong partnerships build safer communities.
After an extended joint investigation, an arrest has been made in a series of mail theft cases. Investigators from our South Division and our Southwest Service Area Crime Reduction Unit worked with United States Postal Inspector Service (USPIS) to identify and ultimately apprehend a suspect who was using master keys to open cluster mailbox kiosks at apartment complexes and steal mail items.
Jamario Darden, 32, was arrested and charged with:
· Financial Transaction Card Theft
· Misdemeanor Larceny
· Possession of Firearm by a Felon
Darden was served with outstanding warrants out of Wilkes County for:
· Larceny of Chose in Action
· Forgery of Instrument
· Uttering Paper with Forged Endorsement
· Obtain Property by False Pretense
· Identity Theft
Darden was also served with a Fugitive Warrant out of South Carolina.
The mail property seized will be sorted through and USPIS will be consulted to determine the next course of action.
The successful result in these cases showcases the teamwork and dedication required in complex investigations. Close coordination with the USPS, extensive review of preliminary information, securing search warrants and the meticulous collection, documentation and categorization of evidence all involved contributions from many. Their collaborative effort and attention to detail were critical in moving the investigation forward.
Today, we recognize Juneteenth and as we reflect on the significance of freedom, equality, and justice the U.S. Postal Inspection Service remains committed to serving and protecting our communities with integrity and respect. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #USPIS

ALT U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson quote: “Mr. McKelvey had plenty of opportunities to realize what he was doing was wrong – he stole checks, created false identification documents, and opened bank accounts in someone else’s name. This crime is heavy burden on both its victims and our financial system, and we will work hard to prosecute and prevent it.”
