ALT Domestic violence, in its most aggravated form, exists in certain parts of this State. On the evening of the 1st of Sept unauthorized and illegal armed bodies overthrew the civil authorities of Yazoo Co, took forcible possession of the county, from which the Sheriff, the peace officer of the county, was compelled to flee for safety, and is still a refugee. The Sheriff of this county (Hinds), reports that since the 4th instant, he has been unable, after every effort, to maintain the peace and protect life. He reports various murders by unauthorized armed bodies, who are scouring the country. Warren county is also reported as being in a state of terrorism from the demonstrations of still other unauthorized armed bodies. A feeling of insecurity pervades in other counties than those named... I find myself compelled to appeal to the general govt for the means of giving that protection to which every American citizen is entitled... A necessity of immediate action cannot be over-stated...
