Gaza made every journalist a legitimate target. What was allowed to happen to Palestinian journalists - the targeted slaughter - made every single journalist in the world less safe. A passport or an institutional affiliation won’t matter and this is a hell of our making because we collectively as the institution of journalism didn’t consider Palestinians our colleagues, as humans worthy of protection & life.
“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah. Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah. Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah. "The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him. Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

What’s sickening is that there have been likely hundreds of Palestinian journalists killed by Israel over the last decade that were clearly wearing Press gear that Israel didn’t care. Listen to Palestinians, honor those who have been killed, and amplify their stories, too.

The Israeli settlers who attacked @wapo journalist Heidi Levine and beat her nearly to death were not acting alone. They were fully supported and backed by Israeli soldiers. This brutality is what daily life looks like for millions of Palestinians living under Israeli military rule.

Israel has deliberately transformed the Palestinian olive harvest into a war zone, where occupation soldiers and settlers wage an organized campaign of terror against Palestinian farmers on their own land. And the world continues to turn a blind eye.

This is the first testimony we recorded in Gaza. These are the voices of Palestinian witnesses and survivors, and they deserve to be heard. Please share this widely.
"Mama held on for seven days before she died." Somaia lay beside her mother beneath the rubble of their home in Gaza City for three weeks, and lived to tell it. Our first testimony from Gaza, now with English subtitles.

You may not have heard about this. But thousands of students across hundreds of campuses had rallies and direction in support of victims of sexual assault and sexual harsssment. Cornel is not an isolated event.

State sanctioned violence either enacted by the police in the U.S. or settler violence and military violence in Israel must be abolished. Start grasping how these systems are all fundamentally the same. There’s no reforming the police. There’s no reforming Zionism.

It's so difficult to explain to the outside world what it has meant to live in the West Bank in the last few months. The level of Israeli violence we have been witnessing has not only been unprecedented, but it's beyond rogue and feral. Israelis, whether in the army or not, have been armed not just with military grade weapons like M16s, but they've been provided with drones. Every neighborhood in the West Bank faces some form of Israeli violence every day. It's either settlers carrying out pogroms, shooting Palestinians in their own lands and homes, or the army and police detaining Palestinians and subjecting them to torture as a sadistic ritual. As Palestinians we've been stripped of all capacity to not just push back, but to even remain on our lands. BRIEF: Water has been systemically cut off, electricity is slowly cut off, access to hospitals and education is ruptured, there are economic restrictions on money flow while Israeli soldiers carry out organized and systemic robbery of Palestinians (stealing money from people on checkpoints, stealing gold from homes, and even carrying out army-sanctioned robberies of hundreds of thousands of dollars from official money exchange offices). The West Bank feels so dystopic, every day we wait to see if Israelis have come up with a reason to carry out their sadistic games of violence. Whether it's some Jewish holiday, or some other excuse, we're always just waiting to see what event Israelis will evoke that day to attack us. It's like a daily waltz with death. You either survive another day, or you don't.

Unbelievable. The way Israel has tormented Palestinians defies words.
After surviving 21 days beneath the rubble, Somaia Al-Suwairki underwent 11 surgeries, was shot multiple times, and lost her family and aunt. Doctors kept telling her, “This is the last surgery,” but the surgeries continued.
