10/7 – In a targeted law enforcement action, Detroit Station agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who is a registered sex offender in the state of Arkansas. The subject has two felony convictions for sexual assault with a minor and forgery. The subject is being charged with felony re-entry. He will be #deported. #TBT Michiganders have been using the Mackinac bridge to travel across the Straits of Mackinac, a body of water connecting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, since 1957. The Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western Hemisphere that connects the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan. The "Mighty Mac" is located in the Sault Ste. Marie Station's Area of Responsibility. It is believed that the Sault Ste. Marie Station was first activated in July of 1924 in conjunction with the creation of the #BorderPatrol. #DetroitSector

Trivia Tuesday answer: The very first #BorderPatrol Station was established in Detroit, MI, in June 1924 to patrol the northern border. Shortly thereafter, in July 1924, the second station opened in El Paso, TX, to enforce immigration law along the U.S.-Mexico border. During the Prohibition era, the #DetroitSector experienced a high volume of illegal activity as rumrunners frequently attempted to smuggle alcohol into the United States from Canada.
