This is a historic milestone for the U.S., UK, and AUKUS. The @USNavy and @RoyalNavy successfully test launched an exercise U.S. Mk 48 torpedo from an unmanned UK undersea vehicle in Scotland. On Friday, we gathered at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were forever changed.
On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, we honor their memory, the courage of those who responded, and the enduring solidarity with our Scottish partners and friends.

On September 13, 2001, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made history by directing the U.S. National Anthem to be played during the Changing of the Guard, the first time another nation’s anthem had been played during the ceremony. Today, Harriet and I were honored to witness that tribute repeated to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We are deeply grateful to the Royal Family and the British people for standing with the United States in our time of need, and for the enduring friendship between our two nations.

This morning Harriet and I commemorated September 11 by paying our respects at the permanent memorial in Grosvenor Square, a reminder of the way our British friends stood alongside us in one of our nation’s darkest hours. We will never forget the lives lost and those whose lives were forever changed by the attacks.
