This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate Manuel Gamio. His archaeological work at Teotihuacan didn't focus only on its ancient monuments: he studied the surrounding population and region as well, an unusually broad approach to archaeology for his era. #HispanicHeritageMonth
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate Julian Samora. His influence continues at the University of Michigan through the Julian Samora Research Institute, established in 1989 to advance research on Latino communities in the Midwest. #HispanicHeritageMonth
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate George Meléndez Wright. Today, the National Park Service honors his legacy through the George Melendez Wright Young Leaders in Climate Change program, supporting a new generation of conservation work. #HispanicHeritageMonth
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate David Alfaro Siqueiros. In 1932, his Los Angeles mural América Tropical was whitewashed after controversy over its imagery. Decades later, it was conserved and reopened to the public. #HispanicHeritageMonth
Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the families, first responders, and communities forever changed by that day. We also remember and honor the courage, compassion, and service shown in its aftermath.
Welcome back to another school year and Academic Decathlon season! The journey begins, fitting with our theme for this year. Today, also marks 256 years since the birth of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Good luck to everyone this year!
We are saddened by the loss of Dr. Les Martisko. USAD lost a great leader, mentor, and friend last month.
Dr. Martisko's legacy lives on in the countless students and coaches whose lives were touched by his leadership, laughter, and belief in the power of academic competition.
Today, United States Academic Decathlon honors and remembers the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice reminds us of the value of citizenship, service, and community.
We love seeing our champions recognize all the decathletes they competed against! #USADNats2026
