Now and then: Navi Pillay
This year's peace laureate Navi Pillay has been a champion for international legal order for her whole life.
Pillay grew up in a family of Indian Tamil descent in Durban, South Africa, where in 1967 she founded her own law firm. In the 1980s she studied at Harvard University and earned a doctor's degree. The first picture was taken during her studies at Harvard.
Pillay later became the first non-white female judge of the High Court of South Africa. Today she works as a judge on the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

🇿🇦 National Women’s Day | 9 August
On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, standing together against injustice and the apartheid pass laws.
70 years later, their courage remains a powerful reminder that change begins when people stand together.
Today, the Universal Rights Association (URA) honours those women and all women who continue to stand for justice, equality, dignity and freedom.
Their courage. Our responsibility. Our future.
Happy National Women’s Day.
Nelson Mandela Day | 18 July
Today we honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, whose unwavering commitment to justice, equality and human dignity continues to inspire people around the world.
Mandela believed that every individual has the power to make a difference through compassion, courage and service to others. His vision reminds us that protecting human rights and standing up for those whose voices are unheard is a responsibility we all share.
As we commemorate Nelson Mandela Day, let us renew our commitment to building societies founded on respect, equality, freedom and justice for all.
“It is in your hands to make the world a better place.”

Thousands gather in Strasbourg for one simple reason:
Human rights are not optional.
Court judgments are not suggestions.
Justice is not negotiable.
#AdaletİçinSesVer #JusticeForAll
Justice is not about politics.
It is about protecting the rights of every human being, especially when it is unpopular to do so.

When court judgments are ignored, it is not only victims who suffer.
Confidence in justice suffers.
The rule of law suffers.
Democracy suffers.
