I'm proud to report that for the first time in history, the @UN has achieved gender parity across all senior leadership, headquarters & professional staff.
We removed barriers, challenged assumptions & refused to accept that power must look as it always has. And we never compromised on quality & competence.
If the UN can do it, so can governments, parliaments & businesses everywhere.

Guterres: AI must be shaped by 'all of humanity', not a handful of powers news.un.org/en/story/2026/07…
UN_Bahrain retweeted
Technology that will shape the future of humanity must be shaped by all of humanity.
It cannot be governed by a handful of countries or companies. Every nation needs a seat at the table.
Technology must serve people – not the other way around.

As we remember the victims of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica, we must confront a difficult reality that hate speech is on the rise – fueling discrimination, extremism & division.
We cannot turn away from these warning signs.
Let’s confront denial with truth & impunity with justice.

AI may feel intangible, but its footprint is not.
Data centres already consume more electricity than most countries.
I’m calling on every major AI company to measure & publicly disclose the full footprint of its systems & to commit to power every data centre with renewable energy by 2030.

The snow accumulated by Switzerland's glaciers over the winter has completely melted away, according to @glamos_ch.
Without snow's protective cover, glacier ice melts faster. Heatwaves and changing climate conditions brought this year's glacier loss day much earlier than usual.

I strongly condemn Monday’s incident that led to the killing of two Indonesian @UNIFIL_ peacekeepers in South Lebanon. A third peacekeeper was severely injured & a fourth was also hurt.
My deepest condolences to the peacekeepers’ families, friends & colleagues & to Indonesia, and wishing a full & fast recovery to the injured peacekeepers.
This is the second fatal incident in 24 hours — following the killing of a peacekeeper in a separate incident on Sunday.
Attacks on peacekeepers are grave violations of international humanitarian law.
They must stop.
No one should ever have to die serving the cause of peace.

If the military escalation in the Middle East continues, up to 3.6 million jobs could be lost — and as many as 4 million people pushed into poverty.
Hard-won development gains risk being reversed.
