On nature, decarbonization and resilience, the UN is supporting a whole-of-economy transition towards a low-carbon, resilient and nature-positive development. @UNOPS has worked with PLN  to transition the Java-Bali grid to a smart grid that can manage the variability of renewable energy, now being scaled to 4 additional island systems. @SEforALLorg expertise will inform the 100GW solar rollout through a roadmap matching potential with local needs and infrastructure. And @UNIDOINS is working with industrial parks to introduce global standards and integrate renewables into the energy mix.

Indonesia has the potential to become a global hub for the seaweed bioeconomy. Looking forward to a joint visit with Ibu Roro and the @Kemendag team to advance this work, leveraging the existing efforts of @UNIDOINS, @FAOIndonesia, @IndonesiaILO and @UNDPIndonesia, alongside the GISD Alliance and @apindonasional, to unlock investment, strengthen value chains and create new export opportunities.

Financing can turn opportunity into value. Scaling up seaweed processing and innovation will require investment, strong partnerships, and private sector leadership. The GISD Alliance Country Platform for Indonesia led by @BappenasRI in partnership with @UNinIndonesia and @apindonasional can bring together government, investors, financial institutions, and development partners to build a pipeline of investable seaweed projects. Together, we can turn Indonesia's seaweed potential into new industries, better jobs, and sustainable growth.

Today’s discussion led by @BappenasRI focused on two high-potential seaweed value chains:🌱 biopolymers, bioplastics & sustainable packaging and 🌿 biofertilizers & biostimulants. As global demand for bio-based products accelerates, seaweed is emerging as one of the fastest-growing sustainable sectors. Indonesia has the potential not only to grow seaweed, but to become a leading innovator, processor, and exporter of high-value seaweed-derived product. The value-add opportunity is compelling: processed seaweed products can fetch up to 20x the value of raw seaweed. Unlocking this opportunity will require investment, innovation, and strong public-private partnerships. @UNCTAD @JointSDGFund

Indonesia has the scale and the opportunity to become a global leader in higher-value seaweed products. Today’s consultation on transforming Indonesia’s seaweed sector brought together government and private sectors to explore how Indonesia can capture more value through downstream industries and sustainable investments. Thanks to the leadership of Bapak Teguh, Deputy Minister @BappenasRI, @kkpgoid and the @JointSDGFund’s and @UNCTAD Expertise on Demand mechanism that has enabled us to mobilize UNCTAD's specialized expertise on trade, standards, market access, and value-chain development, while connecting it with the wider capabilities of the @UNinIndonesia system @UNIDOINS @FAOIndonesia @UNDPIndonesia

From Batamindo Eco-Industrial Park, it was inspiring to see the factory, as part of @UNIDOINS's Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (#GEIPP), is leveraging Agentic AI to accelerate sustainability and productivity. AI is being deployed for quality inspection, warehouse operations, maintenance, defect detection, and factory cooling and ventilation systems. Agentic-AI solutions are translating into energy savings for factories. 🤖⚡🌱

Through @UNIDOINS’ partnership with 5 industrial parks across Indonesia, set to expand to 9, the UN has contributed to the reduction of more than 22,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually, while leveraging over US$16 million in additional sustainability investments and enabling US$5.5 million in annual savings. At Batamindo’s control center, I witnessed how sustainability is embedded in daily industrial operations through its partnership with @UNIDOINS. Renewable energy solutions, including solar PV and B50 biodiesel, are helping meet industrial energy demand, while all wastewater is treated before reuse or discharge. The park treats around 4,000 m³ of water every day, showing how resource efficiency can drive both productivity and environmental stewardship. ♻️⚡ #GEIPP #ClimateAction #Indonesia

In Batam, Riau Islands Province 🇮🇩, I had the opportunity to visit @UNIDOINS’ Eco-Industrial Park partner, Batamindo, home to 74 high-tech, high value-added companies contributing over US$16 billion in exports, employing a workforce that is nearly 80% women. Through @UNIDO’s Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (#GEIPP), Batamindo is demonstrating that industrial competitiveness and sustainability can go hand in hand. With 11.6 MW of solar PV already installed and plans to double capacity next year with battery storage, renewables are set to provide nearly a quarter of the park’s energy mix. #GreenIndustry #Indonesia

It was an honour to host H.E. Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, Minister of Environment (@KLH_BPLH), at the @UNinIndonesia premises today for a comprehensive discussion on the UN’s contribution to accelerating delivery of Indonesia’s NDC through stronger partnerships, technical expertise, and innovation that can drive impact at scale.

It was a pleasure to introduce H.E. Ambassador Denny Abdi (@dennyabdi), Secretary-General and Acting Director General for Multilateral Cooperation at @Kemlu_RI, to the @UNinIndonesia Country Team, together with his directors Pak Ary, Bu Indah, Bu Vicka, Pak Herfino and Pak Arief. Our informal dialogue explored how @UN can add value to Indonesia’s priorities by bringing to bear global expertise, innovation, finance and partnerships.

I had a rich exchange with @apindonasional Chairwoman Shinta W. Kamdani (@ShintaKamdani), Svida Alisjahbana (@Svidss), Head of APINDO’s Creative Economy, and the team on opportunities across Indonesia’s creative economy, which employs 27.4 million people, more than half of them under 40.

Perspectives from @mkamiyajp of @UNIDOINS, Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa of @unescojakarta and Marisa Aisha Mohamed Razeek of @ITCnews enriched the exchange. From fashion and crafts to film, culinary industries and gaming, we looked at areas with the strongest potential for jobs and economic value, and where partnerships can make the greatest difference.
