NASA’s Artemis II mission is expected to begin its journey around the moon this year, and UNB is thrilled to be tracking the Orion spacecraft!
NASA has selected UNB as one of only three Canadian contributors helping to track Orion during its 10‑day moon mission.
Our involvement brings together the expertise of #CubeSatNB, the department of electrical & computer engineering, the department of geodesy and geomatics engineering and the UNB Earth Station—a powerhouse team supporting hands‑on learning and research in satellite communications.
As part of a global network of academic partners, commercial providers and volunteer stations, UNB will help passively track Orion’s radio signals on its voyage and orbit of the moon, contributing real data to a historic mission.
Artemis II marks NASA’s first crewed mission to the moon in over 50 years. Four astronauts will launch aboard the Space Launch System rocket, travel around the moon in Orion, and return to Earth. They will test critical life‑support, navigation and communication systems to pave the way for future lunar exploration.

📢 UNB Fredericton Campus Exam Location Update!
UNB Fredericton campus students, in response to your feedback and to support academic success, we’ve made changes to improve your exam experience for the fall-term exam period from Dec. 11 through Dec. 20.
✅ What’s New?
Exams will no longer be held in the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. Instead, head to the Alberta Alumni Gym (1st floor, Richard J. CURRIE CENTER).
The Performance Gym (4th floor, Richard J. CURRIE CENTER) will continue to be used for exams.
Our Richard J. CURRIE CENTER team is working hard to keep these spaces quiet, organized and stress-free.
🕒 Arrival Tips
You can enter the exam gym 15 minutes before your exam, please don’t arrive earlier than that to avoid congestion.
🏋️ Recreation Impact
During exams, the 1st-floor strength area and 2nd-floor track at the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER will have reduced hours; however, Lady Beaverbrook Gym will offer extra open gym times!
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to make your exam experience the best it can be.
Good luck, you’ve got this 💪📚

Today, we proudly opened the doors to the Allison D. McCain Commons — a stunning, sustainable and state-of-the-art addition to the country's oldest engineering school, founded in 1854 right here at UNB!
This 18,400 square-foot mass timber and glass structure transforms the entrance of Head Hall on our Fredericton campus into a vibrant hub for learning, collaboration and innovation. At its heart is the Student Success Centre, a 1,500 square-foot space dedicated to empowering students with tutoring, mentoring, counselling and career support.
Named in recognition of Dr. Allison D. McCain (BScEE'72, DSc'07), a UNB engineering graduate, former UNB chancellor (2013-23) and lead donor to the project, the Commons is a bold step forward in our vision to reimagine engineering education for the future.
We're deeply grateful to Dr. McCain, our alumni, donors, students, faculty and partners who made this dream a reality.
