Honored to join @pathologistmag's 2026 Power List. My essay argues that pathology's defining challenge is not AI but invisibility, because a specialty thats hidden allows others to narrate its future. Congrats to all the honorees!

Thrilled to see @UMichPath education superstar Dr. Madelyn Lew presenting today at the Association of Academic Pathology Annual Meeting on “Integrating & Enhancing Pathology Experiences in Clinical Curricula.” Her session highlighted an important shift from simply teaching pathology to intentionally integrating pathology within clinical education through thoughtful curriculum design, needs assessment, and educational theory.
The future of pathology education depends on educators like Madelyn who continually ask not just what we teach, but how, when, and why learners encounter pathology throughout their training.

The human body has lessons to teach all of us in medicine. As a hematopathologist, I’m especially partial to the bone marrow. During my 2026 commencement keynote at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, I shared how the marrow models attentiveness, responsiveness, connectedness, adaptability, and resilience in ways that medicine should never forget.
Here’s a snapshot of a few of those lessons.
