It’s just been confirmed: Donald Trump is coming to Manchester next year.
Andy Burnham says he will be “really pleased” to welcome Trump to the city.
We have a different message: Trump is NOT welcome in Manchester.
Save the date. See you there.

📻 this morning we said Burnham must:
🛢️ not give in to Trump's climate vandalism, & reject more oil/gas drilling
💰 reject tax breaks for big tech giants
💣 end the UK's complicity in the illegal war on Iran.
They’ve just met and it’s not any clearer if he will.
1 year ago we came together to stand up to Trump & his hatred.
The forces behind Trump - fascism, Islamophobia, racism, greed - continue to try to divide us.
We stand in solidarity for a democratic alternative. He will be back in the UK next year, we will be ready.
“Burnham might believe this decision will get Reform UK & the Conservatives off his back. Of course it won’t. He might imagine it will appease Donald Trump, but you can’t appease Trump. Whatever you give him, he will always want more.”

New Prime Minister, same old Trump.
@andyburnham faces 3 upcoming tests in his approach to Trump:
Act now to demand Burnham doesn’t bow to Trump’s pressure and green-light more oil and gas drilling in the North Sea.

The UK must not cave to Trump’s pressure.
Our ‘big tech tax’ raises billions for the British public, it shouldn’t be scrapped so Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg can hoard even more extreme wealth.
Disagreeing with Trump in public is a step forward.
But refusing to do what he tells you to, whether in public or in private, is much more important.

Burnham should cut off the US's use of bases, like Spain already has, to help end Trump's continuing attacks on Iran. There is nothing "defensive" about Trump's war.
EXCLUSIVE: Andy Burnham has approved the use of British military bases by the US for what the UK calls defensive strikes against Iran, in a continuation of Keir Starmer’s policy even as Trump ramps up his war.
Starmer chaired a COBR meeting on Friday to discuss UK policy following the resumption of US operations and amid fears of an escalating conflict.
Ministers at that meeting decided to continue the existing policy that bases at Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford could be used by US planes countering the Iranian missile threat and sites used to target the Strait of Hormuz, sources say.
Burnham, who became PM on Monday, was informed of the discussion and agreed with the decision taken, sources say. He will continue the previous government’s policy when it comes to approving UK bases for so-called defensive US strikes, they say.
It means British bases are likely to be used for some of the current round of American operations.
The decision emerges after the 10th day of renewed US action. US Central Command said it targeted Iranian military command centers, launch sites and air defences overnight. British officials have nonetheless been concerned about Trump’s threats to strike bridges and power plants.
It is likely to provoke criticism from left-wing Labour MPs, the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats who have argued use of the bases makes the UK complicit in war crimes.

If Trump visits Manchester, we have no doubt that the people of Manchester will take to the streets to show him what they think of him.
🚨 NEW: The No 10 readout of Andy Burnham's call with Donald Trump
"The Prime Minister began by congratulating the President on a successful World Cup and agreed that England had an excellent tournament.
"The Prime Minister also hoped that he would be able to show the President what Manchester had to offer during a visit in the future.
"Setting out his vision as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister said he would be focused on ensuring reindustrialisation up and down the country to ensure good growth in every postcode.
"The Prime Minister also underlined his commitment to defence and security and said ensuring the security of the UK and its Allies was at the top of his agenda.
"The President then updated on the situation in the Middle East, and the Prime Minister outlined the UK's commitment to securing the movement of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to support global supply chains and drive down costs for businesses and families across the country.
"They looked forward to speaking again soon"
