How can that be a “careless challenge”? It’s accidental, Muniz has not deliberately put his foot on Chalobah’s. He has to put his foot somewhere when executing skill like that. The problem for officials now is if that is deemed the benchmark then, if refs are going to be consistent, loads of goals will be chalked off for accidental contact. VAR was not brought in to be this forensic and look for ways to rule goals out. It was brought in for clear and obvious errors. And that wasn’t one. The authorities should be celebrating skill and goals - not stopping them. #CHEFUL

Plenty of love for Sarr, rightly so, the more attacking and progressive of Spurs midfield three. But this deeper Palhinha-Bentancur axis is key, locking down midfield so far. Two alert sentries in front of the defence, disruptors of opposition attacks, neat passers building attacks and threats at set-pieces. Experienced and streetwise. Having Bentancur fit so important. Bringing in Palhinha on loan inspired. To guard is to do #THFC #MCITOT

Thomas Frank’s impact on Spurs part 72: their relentless work out of possession. Pressing (Richarlison, Sarr), harrying (Bentancur, Palhinha, Sarr, everyone), tracking back (Sarr), doubling up (Kudus, Porro), covering across (Van de Ven). Defence all excellent. #THFC #MCITOT

Racist abuse should lead to a life ban from the stadium. All stadiums. Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by somebody in the crowd. Disgusting and dispiriting that a half-hour into the new @premierleague season that a player is allegedly subjected to this. #kickitout

Disappointment for Spurs, letting slip the lead, defeat on pens, but plenty of positives against opponents who eventually played like European champions and had game-changing subs. Positives? Organisation, pressing, system, work-rate, players responding to Thomas Frank. #THFC
