Every voice deserves to be heard. Creating space for key populations to speak does not diminish anyone else’s voice. True inclusion recognises that everyone has a place in the conversation and the right to be heard.

Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. Neither should healthcare.💗 The question is not only who is at risk, but also who is being reached. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

Happy Independence Day, Uganda! May the spirit of independence inspire a future where key populations are not on the margins, but part of the story, the progress, and the future of Uganda.

Flexible funding is not simply a financing preference; for communities facing criminalisation, stigma, and rapidly changing risks, it is essential to an effective response. When resources can move at the speed of need, communities can keep people safe, sustain access to essential services and respond before a crisis becomes a catastrophe. Funders must increasingly trust community-led organisations not only to identify priorities but also to deploy resources where they will have the greatest and most immediate impact. Flexibility is not the absence of accountability; it is accountability designed around realities on the ground. And in key population programming, that flexibility can save lives. #FlexibleFunding #CommunityLed #KeyPopulations #HIV #HumanRights #HealthEquity #Localisation
When needs move fast, funding must move faster. Without flexible funding, people wait, services stall, and urgent gaps grow. Flexible funding keeps communities moving, services running, and lives protected. 👇 Read the thread to discover 5 ways flexible funding can save lives in key population communities. #FundKPs #KeyPopulationsUG

Flexibility does not mean less accountability. It means being accountable to the outcome, while allowing the route to change. #FundKPs #KeyPopulationsUG

Funding rules should never become the reason help arrives too late. Fund the outcome, trust community leadership. #FundKPs #KeyPopulationsUG

Human rights are for everyone. Protecting the rights of key populations does not diminish anyone else’s rights. It strengthens the principle that every person deserves dignity, equality, and protection.

As we said earlier, the question is not simply where UNAIDS fits within the UN system. It is about what countries and communities need to finish the job of ending AIDS. In her remarks at the 2nd Multistakeholder Consultation on the further transition and integration of UNAIDS into the UN system and beyond, UNAIDS Executive Director @Winnie_Byanyima reflected on what a successful transformation should ultimately deliver: stronger national institutions, greater country ownership and a sustainable AIDS response that can be carried forward by countries and communities themselves. Ms Byanyima was clear: the measure of success is not the preservation of institutions, but whether the global HIV response is strengthened and countries and communities are equipped to sustain it. Swipe through for a summary of her remarks.
Asked what should guide the future of UNAIDS, UNAIDS Executive Director Ms Byanyima @Winnie_Byanyima said: “We should not begin with the question: Where in the UN system should the different pieces of UNAIDS Secretariat go? We should begin with: What do countries and communities need from the UN to finish the job of ending AIDS?”

Some principles should never be up for debate: health, dignity, and justice. For key populations, treating these as non-negotiable means building systems where everyone can access care, claim their rights, and live with dignity.

A world free from stigma and discrimination should be ordinary. For key populations, that means confronting the attitudes and systems that create exclusion, while ensuring everyone can access care, rights, and protection with dignity.

Funding cuts are not an accounting adjustment. They determine whether someone finds an open clinic, receives PrEP, stays on treatment, accesses a peer educator, or has somewhere safe to report violence. When 97% of key-population organisations report being affected and 45% of HIV programmes serving these communities have partially or fully closed, we are no longer talking about a funding gap. We are talking about an infrastructure gap. The lesson from our No Time to Wait report is clear: Uganda cannot build a resilient HIV response while community systems remain financially fragile. The next phase must invest in sustainable domestic financing, social contracting and community-led systems, not simply ask communities to do more with less. #NoTimeToWait #HIV #CommunityLedResponse #Uganda
Funding cuts are not just numbers on a spreadsheet. They have real consequences for communities, services, and the people who depend on them. As resources shrink, so does the ability to sustain essential support and reach those who need it most. Sustained funding helps keep services accessible, strengthen community-led responses, and protect the progress already made.
