Malik Nabers says the best receivers are selfless enough to run every route hard knowing they won’t get the ball, in order to help one of their teammates get open
“And that route far. Yeah. And you got to go full speed. Yeah. Any switch of tempo, that DB know. You got to be critique about how you run this route. And then you don’t get it. You got to run back, get it again, and it might be another route that’s long.”
“And you got to remember, you might not get the ball in some of the routes that you run. You clear it out for this other dude to get the ball. So now you got to switch over to like, okay, cool. Not only am I not getting the ball, I got to run it to get this dude over to get the ball, and he get it.”
“You like, ‘Fuck that. Fuck that.’ Yeah. Now, nah, you can’t do that, cuz, like, you got a relationship with the guys that’s in there. Like, you built that. It’s players. Players fuck with players.”
“I’ma talk to you real quick, you know what I’m saying, on the side, behind a little card on the side. Especially because you don’t want to be viewed as that in your room. As that selfish person. ‘Man, Malik don’t want to run his route so I can get the ball. Like, he’s selfish.’ Feel me?”
“Because receivers talk. Receivers talk to receivers. Receivers talk to coaches. Coaches talk to other coaches, and they start to get around to, like, you the problem.”
“So you don’t never want to be that problem, cuz now they figuring about how to get rid of you. And once they get rid of you, they going to ask about the coaches.”
“‘What you think about Malik? Should we pick him up?’ ‘Nah, he a selfish player. You know, he don’t get open for his guys.’ Now you ain’t got a job. That’s a fact.”
