The National Planning Policy Framework is a spectacular failure. All at once, it ignores communities, fails to build homes we need, and is a labyrinth of empty process that doesn’t protect the environment or uphold decent housing standards. Scrap the lot and start again.

Private water companies have left us exposed to drought and sewage spills. Now communities are seeing taps run dry whilst paying rip-off bills. As scarcity gets worse, we need decisions about our water to be based on need, not profit. We need water in public ownership.

"Key allies of PM issue warning as details emerge of his plan to give mayors powers to oversee water companies." I suspect I'm going to get very monotonous about all of this over coming weeks. To repeat the problem with the water industry is ownership, fix that you fix the issue. Everything else is irrelevant. theguardian.com/business/202…

People are fed up with privatised water companies letting us down and ripping us off. We deserve a real conversation about public ownership. Can you help build pressure by asking your MP to attend this crucial debate on water ownership? actionnetwork.org/letters/as…

“Water company plans £89m shareholder payout despite sewage conviction.” And that boys & girls is how it works We can spend £91.6m fixing the sewage works or dump that sh*t into the nearest river, pay a £2.6m fine and give the rest to our shareholders. telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

14 September! The petition secured a Parliamentary debate on the referendum to bring water into public ownership. petition.parliament.uk/petit… KEEP SIGNING please to show support and wake up your MP. The coloured constituencies are those providing the most support right now. Can you or your groups turn some more lights on, please? North looks surprisingly grey so far. Happy with pollution and being ripped off up there? Massive thanks to all that signed and helped, approaching 200K now. A month to run.

It rained.... And as predicted on @LBC with @HenryRiley1 not 48 hours ago. Anything in brown is sewage being dumping into the environment right now, in real time, anything in red is sewage dumped over the last 24 hours.

🚨 NEWS! We’re taking the Government to court. Today, the High Court granted River Action permission to challenge the Government over its failure to publish a clear policy for dealing with failing water companies. Why does this matter? With Thames Water facing serious financial instability and ongoing performance failures, the public deserves to know how and when the Government would step in. 💧 Our water is an essential public service. 🔍 Decisions about its future cannot be made behind closed doors. ⚖️ The Government must be transparent and accountable. Today’s ruling means our challenge can now proceed to a full hearing - an important step towards greater transparency and accountability in England’s water industry. We’ll keep pushing to make sure decisions about the future of our water are made openly, accountably and in in the best interest of the public and environment. 👉 Find out more about our legal challenge: riveractionuk.com/news/campa… #LegalAction #RescueOurRivers

Hardly in line with @andyburnham’s pledge to hand power to the regions. He had the opportunity to stop the new NPPF being published, or to amend it. Instead, it “will weaken theirs and their local communities' voices and shift the balance of power towards developers, increasing the risk of unsustainable development in locations that lack the necessary infrastructure and services.” countycouncilsnetwork.org.uk…

This is fundamentally wrong. The public should be given water priority during heatwaves, not AI data centres.

Data centres plastered all over Britain. Solar panels plastered on thousands of acres of prime farmland. Gigantic wind turbines plastered right across the coast. All falsely framed as somehow being for technological advancement or saving the planet. Instead, it’s a gigantic virtue con trick to plunder countryside and coastal beauty for pure greed. And the politicians who facilitate this scenic vandalism for corporate asset grabbing are firmly in their pocket. Shameful. No one voted for this.
