I've asked when at Wallington and was told they were historic tithe boundary stones or estate boundary markers.

Guinevere's Dialect. Bleeze - blaze. Bleezer - a screen/hood in front of the fire to help it draw, or as here, a newspaper. Bleeze is a 1700's spelling. We have discussed the "bleezing" qualities of various newspapers. The Chronicle came out favourably.

Today's piece of turnipiness :
In the 19th century, a Halloween ‘trick’ played on neighbours in Co. Leitrim, Ireland was to make a Jack-o’-lantern out of a turnip, then tie it to someone’s door so that when they open the door the turnip hit them in the face.
