This person is arguing that it does not matter if a person agrees to MAiD bc they are lonely provided that person is disabled. What matters is that if a non-disabled person suffers loneliness to same degree they wouldn't qualify for MAiD.

I am so frustrated by this.
Our audience desperately wants debates on Canadas most pressing issues.
Yet, I can’t get participants.
I’ve tried to organize good faith, Nuanced Debates on:
- Housing
- The Economy
- MAID
- Taxes
Yet again and again, I hear from professors, experts, and commentators that their side is right - and the other side is evil, bad intentioned and not worthy of debate.
I thought once we did the first, people would see that we’re not looking for a food fight we’re looking for honest disagreements.
I just want to recognize @MarkJaccard and @ExnerPirot for coming on and having the conversation.
It takes courage to have your ideas challenged - and I wish more would follow in their footsteps.

Chronic illness is not terminal illness. There is no terminal illness requirement in Canada's MAID law . No requirement under track 1, definitely nothing close to it for track 2. Canadian MAID providers publicly expressed concern about people getting MAID w treatable cancers.

Fact check: The Canadian MAID regime is currently for medical conditions including diseases, disabilities or illnesses.
To pretend it's limited to solely "incurable diseases" ignores it is approved for medical conditions that are not terminal.

I have incurable diseases. Millions of Canadians do. It’s easier for me to get MAID than it is for me to get the health care and financial support that I need. Forcing people to choose between poverty and euthanasia is the height of cruelty. And it is coercion.
The doctor is well aware that "death must be reasonably foreseeable" was removed from the law in 2021.
The doctor is leaving that out because it doesn't fit his narrative about MAID.

Not a Catholic but you do realize everything you just said is true of Canadian state and particularly Canadian legal system whose decisions around MAiD you agree with.
Residential schools were fundamentally an exercise in state power not religion.
They raped boys and girls, waged genocide against Indigenous peoples, used arbitrary arrest, torture and executions and were anti-Semitic. And yet they righteously say aiding someone to peacefully die at the certain end of life is "not normal".
