Amidst a lot of cringe in the valley this type of camaraderie is refreshing Some of this young talent is figuring it out
THE SCALE MAFIA one of the most special parts of starting a company is watching the people you fought and bled with in the early days go out and change the world. the Scale crew was supernatural. @scale_ai was one of the first companies to IOI and IMO-maxx, and the magic of Scale was that all of these geniuses gave a shit and ran through walls. it's no wonder that the Scale mafia is the first true mafia of the modern tech era. just to name a few: - cognition founder @stevenkplus1 & president @russelljkaplan - modal founder @akshat_b - tech & science advisor to POTUS @mkratsios47 - claude code head of product @_catwu - kpcb partners @LM_Braswell & @nayakkayak - bun founder @jarredsumner - tbd head of product @lindugong - netic founder @melisatokmak - cobot founder @BradPorter_ - secureframe founder @shravvmehtaa - paramount skydance cfo @DennisKCinelli - thinking machines gc lauren lennon - partner at greylock @sophia_luo_ - liquid ai coo jeffrey li - gallatin ai founder @agilemofo - tbd safety @_julianmichael_ - center for ai safety president @devindkim [photo courtesy the beautiful wedding of @thenateherman (who in many ways was a cofounder of Scale) and @ChristinaG325]

Platform and reinsurance coming along so briskly starting to think the licensing (for that need to close our funding) is going to be the bottleneck to a fast start for this new underwriting operation anxious to get started as very broker’s favorite fastest expert market.

You can’t tell me all these 22yo startup founders are reading the massive pile of paperwork that comes with launching and funding a company. Or 50yo for that matter does everyone just sign on the dotted line and pray their law firm has it covered or claude got it right or the investors themselves aren’t going to screw them over?

There should be a multi million dollar bonus waiting for underwriters that stay through their 7, 8, 9 year tail and maintain profitability on that long tail business throughout

Connecting back through San Diego from Target Markets to SF and nearly just went home instead of hopping on the second leg to SF, WSIA and Target Markets back to back is not for the weary One could do ITC, WSIA, Target Markets, IRMI, and PCI 5 weeks straight this time of year is insane

Jumping straight to drug discovery, one of the least verifiable fields in existence, makes no sense to me. Like, the models can barely serve as a competent accountant/lawyer, isn't drug discovery 1,000,000x harder?

My dad was an electrical lineman for the local power company When cannabis was made legal in our home state the stress warehouses put on the system caused him a great deal of stress He would often worry about the stress the proliferation of electric cars could eventually put on the system when Tesla first got popular This is magnitudes greater than that
Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. businessinsider.com/amazon-2…

Vibe coding CRM is totally doable. Anyone who told you you need Salesforce or other complicated CRM to run your business is wrong at this point. The more fair point is, if your company is legacy and has been running on Salesforce, you will continue to do so. That's more true. If your company is new from day 1, you would be out of your mind to adopt Salesforce rather than asking AI to program your own data/opportunity/deal data model that fits your own business. Integrations are not that hard either with API, CLI, MCP, connectors. We just live in a new world. Let's face it.

This was so good, we’re over our skis and that’s good for the long term much less painful
AI predictions for next 6-9 months -> Anthropic/ OAI fail to ban OSS in the US -> Anthropic/ OAI continue to innovate product but stall on fundamental tech breakthroughs -> SOTA Gemini 4 launches at 10x lower cost -> Elon open sources Grok -> Anthropic/ OAI ARR growth stalls as enterprises move from tokenmaxxing to rational token consumption/ OSS -> slow realization in public markets that AI may not replace human labor in next 1-3 years/ has not had a fundamental tech breakthrough in over a year/ lacks ROI/ AI hyper and lab spend not durable -> moonboy VCs/ hedge funds/ softbank continue to fund Anthropic/ OAI equity raises in private markets as public markets for them are now fully closed -> CXMT, YMTC announce capacity expansions significantly above market expectations -> hypers deliver good q326 results on first look but fail to show meaningful AI ROI, guide to "significant capex expansion in fy27" -> broad realization in public markets the AI dream we got sold on is not anywhere close to realization -> 10yr hits >5% -> hyper bonds reprice >10%, CDS hit 3x current levels, and AI credit market dries up as market realizes GPU ABF was not a good idea -> hyper equities reprice 30-50% lower -> ORCL falls below $30 as rumors of bailout make the round -> market realizes memory is cyclical and LTAs won't hold -> 50% of korean traders get wiped within a week -> hypers cut fy27 capex -> semis reprice >80% lower -> fed cuts >150bps to avoid recession

OpenCode is currently under a sustained cyberattack, and mid-incident they ran into the same problem Hugging Face did: the frontier models they were using for defense began refusing to help fight attacking agents because analyzing the attacks started triggering safety guardrails.
Replying to @RhysSullivan
yes that was a bit frustrating mid incident when trying to investigate. they did quite a bit and then started refusing we got access to daybreak blue now so it's better

There are some prominent high flying valuation companies that idolize her…the idea of fake til you make it still has a stronghold on young people’s minds even when their idols (SBF / EH) sit behind bars
One of the things that hasn’t been talked about with Elizabeth Holmes: She was created in the era of the Ted Talk Entrepreneur. Between 2011-2015 (after the release of the Social Network), there was an entire apparatus built around “Child Prodigies”: college accelerators, young entrepreneur organizations, etc. I watched countless founders of hard tech companies present fraudulent products at conferences. They had fake studies with fudged numbers. Most of the adults in the room excused it as “faking it ‘til you make it.” But Holmes was the one who rode the wave better than anyone else. When the Ted Talk Era came to an end and people finally came to their senses, she was still running the same playbook—and in the most scrutinized field there is: medical technology. When people ask how she got so far, it’s largely explained by the period she did it in. And she got caught when the world suddenly woke up.

Sounds pretty difficult for a silicon chip to pull off Doesn’t mean ASI is cancelled but strong confirmation there is no consciousness and AI is just better logic and game theory
