The YCs have history, 120 years of it. In 1954, the Young Conservatives launched a publication, Rightway, a vehicle for expressing the views of responsible right-wing youth to the country. At Conference this year @KemiBadenoch published The Right Way, a statement of Conservative principles setting out how the Party will govern Britain differently if returned to office. Later today, we will announce the newly elected Chair of the Young Conservatives. The first for three decades. The new Chair will continue building the YCs, and help showcase to the country that only the Conservatives are the party for ambitious, hard-working young people who know the right way. Now is the time to join: membership.conservatives.com…

Young people should hear about what they can do, not what they can't. The next Conservative government will help them into work, not leave them signing on the moment they leave school.

🚨 We have a youth jobs emergency. Why are Healey and Burnham refusing to act? Labour must back our Conservative plans to halve National Insurance for young people and scrap the job-destroying measures in their Unemployment Act.

Westminster City Council has published proposals to use the Sustainable Communities Act to challenge the Government to act and provide a fairer funding settlement following a public consultation. The proposal reflects the strong level of public support – with 90% of those consulted agreeing - and sets out practical changes to protect services, respond to rising demand and recognise the unique costs of delivering services in central London. Real devolution means power passing to the councils that actually deliver services. Good to hear Cllr Paul Swaddle and Cllr Elizabeth Campbell making the case for a direct link between visitor spending and the areas that host it.

🌙✨ Helping everyone enjoy Soho after dark! We joined our Night Stars and Councillor Caroline Sargent for a walkabout through Soho to see the work happening behind the scenes to help people enjoy a safe night out ❤️ From meeting Night Star volunteers to hearing from council staff who volunteer with the scheme, we’re shining a light on the people helping look out for Soho after dark. Soho is one of Westminster’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, with pubs, restaurants, nightlife, theatres and so much more to enjoy 🍸🎭 It takes a team to keep a night out running smoothly - and our Night Stars, the council and partners are working together to help people enjoy Soho safely. 📍 Meet Me in Soho #MeetMeInSoho #SohoLondon #SohoNightlife #NightStars #LondonNightlife

Labour's Fair Funding formula punishes councils that kept tax low. Hammersmith and Fulham now floats 150%. Westminster and Wandsworth warn of big rises too. Residents in Westminster and the City deserve a fair deal, not a penalty for keeping tax low.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council has warned of a potential 150 per cent tax hike due to the Government's Fair Funding reforms. The borough, known for its low tax rates, is set to see its Gov funding cut by more than half over next 4 years. mylondon.news/news/west-lond…

It was great to be part of the @BakerStreetQ panel to discuss the opportunities for the area and share our collective challenges. We’re committed to keeping the area safe, welcoming and vibrant, whilst supporting investment and more opportunities for local people.

Good to visit Church Street recently and hearing directly from residents about their concerns. Listening to local people is vital to ensuring the council delivers the best possible services and the safe streets safe and clean city that residents and visitors want.

Asking how deliveries, cleaning, access and safety will work on Oxford Street is not knee-jerk opposition. It is basic competence. Residents deserve answers before 26 October.
The Mayor calls asking how deliveries, cleaning, access and safety will work "knee jerk opposition". It isn't. It's being a responsible custodian of Oxford Street, and residents deserve answers before 26 October. Full story: westm.news/oxford-st-custodi…

Oxford Street's plants were watered by Westminster until a year ago. Then that job went to the Mayor's teams. Look at them now. Residents notice when basic care is dropped.
We have had a lot of questions about why the plants on #OxfordStreet have been allowed to die. Taking care of them, mostly ensuring they are watered, was the job of @CityWestminster until a year ago. It was handed over to the Mayor's teams in line with other responsibilities. But they didn't have a contract with anyone to take care of the plants and didn't do it themselves, so they have all been allowed to die. In the grand scheme of things, it's a small issue. But it's a very visible example of how not being ready can lead to things going wrong. Managing a space like #OxfordStreet requires hundreds of things to be provided for - from plant watering to street cleaning. If we are going to pedestrianise it, let's take the time to get it right. At the moment it's just being rushed. Am all for deadlines to get things to happen but false ones can lead to unnecessary problems and things going wrong. Like dead plants. @FitzWestForum @MaryleboneAssoc @mayfairforum @sohosocietyw1 @westminstertory

That's not really the issue with the trade here. As a reminder, private cars were banned a decade ago, so all the traffic there now is necessary for the street to work, whether that's access for emergency vehicles, to deliveries for the shops, or how shoppers will even get there. Firstly, there's a big reduction in the number of bus routes and volume of capacity that will service the area. A couple of routes are being terminated early and the remainder will see cuts in frequency as the road they are being diverted to is smaller (every nearby road is smaller!) and can't take the current level of service. Many of the higher spenders, as well as those with bags, mobility issues and the elderly on taxis to get to the bigger shops and those will also struggle as not all the shops have rear entrances. There's also no step-free access from Oxford Circus tube, so some will struggle to get there at all. TfL have acknowledged access is an issue but the solution to improving the station will take years and costs £ tens of millions. The second big issue is that the retail on Oxford Street is actually a much smaller economic activity than everything else that happens nearby so displacing the traffic from one place to another and not ensuring that those areas don't end up being worse is economically reckless. Again, this is a fixable issue but it needs solutions and it needs to be monitored and there are not enough commitments to making that happen. Finally, there's no alternative route for bicycles, yet. The smaller roads can't take them and there are no other obvious East-West routes. The expectation right now is that they will take large detours, which seems unrealistic. Good pedestrianisation can be wonderful. With time and money this could be great, but there is not enough of either right now. It could be fixed but these are self-imposed problems. If it's going to happen, we should be taking the time to make it the best it can be.
Replying to @VoteTimBarnes
Some good questions but a concern about trade is ill founded, majority public do not vote to return vehicles back to a pedestrian area, that is what is the main concern to drivers
