The lowest form of discourse is personal insult cloaked with racism and lies, on X no less. Barbra Banda is a proud member of @nwsl_players. She is the best of us. Just so we’re clear, @jk_rowling: you come for her, you come for all of us. Me first. Let’s go.

in the dying embers of a social media platform, please recommend it to people you know who might enjoy it. The latest post (out today) of this football data blog includes the line "A lot of early genAI ‘art’ production was schmuckery"

Not sure how many people still on here are the types for nerdy blogs about football data, so I'm gonna direct y'all to the link in bio instead of posting links to pieces

This is good-
‘Analytics’ isn’t simply having data around. Think of it like the ‘shot on an iPhone’ adverts compared to what most peoples’ phone videos look like: just because everyone has a high-quality camera in their pockets doesn’t mean everyone is ‘doing cinematography’.

In the spring, I wrote about 'what we talk about when we talk about analytics' - which, if I had the spare change for postage, I would send to every football reporter in the land

In the summer I did a medium-sized piece on how football is a good analogy for how 'AI' (machine learning) actually works.
It's not that tech-y. If you know football but not AI, you'll get somethng from it, & vice versa

imo i think i have an interesting blog. this month I've mused about incentive structures (get-goalside-newsletter-arch…) and asking good questions (get-goalside-newsletter-arch…).
The spirit of 5 years of Get Goalside (get-goalside-newsletter-arch…) is alive and relatively well
This piece has a good number of lines I would put in a 'Get Goalside' anthology, but the truest of them is this:
"If Get Goalside has a fatal flaw it is being tragically English."

Haven't been plugging my newsletter/blogletter much lately because, tbqh, I've been caught mid-migration to Beehiiv because their content import process from Ghost isn't working for me, but that said-
