I agree about pets, I'm concerned about interpretation. An 18 yo boy was in a prom orgy with the (unknown to him) 15 yo girl, they threw the book at him. His state wrote a law to free him & the court said even though the law bore his name, it wasn't retroactive & didn't apply.
