Ignore the nonsense from media.. this is the only sentiment that matters. Expectation, if maintained, becomes reality. Let it be so. We're all responsible for rubbish collection at home.. this is the exactly that, just in the collective and for *everyone's* benefit. #nzpol

Starship Hospital is having to delay cancer treatments for children because of a nursing shortage. This news will be very upsetting for a lot of people and will surely be the the final nail in this government's coffin.

NEW ON EFA: At this year's candidate list conference, Josh Jacobsen described why his experiences made the Greens his home. He neglected to mention these experiences included two NZSAS deployments to Afghanistan in 2010-11. Why is the Green Party running a potential war criminal?

Oh he'll be picking up that phone from Qiulae, that's why he's swerving like a drunk driver to not answer straight up. Also... Bill English would be in the ear: when the PMship is on the line, pick up the phone,& give Qiulae DPM if you have to. That's how things are done #nzpol

I sometimes moderate a Reddit NZ Politics page r/nzpolitics and the amount of astroturfing and brigading from Opportunity Party is insane. The only comparable I've seen is ACT / Taxpayers Union (JW owns a literal bot company) but TOP surpass even TPU by far. #nzpol

Latest NZ balance sheet data is out. Always a pleasure. We can start with our apparently perilously indebted government. Errrm, see those blue bars? They're higher than the yellow line, right? Yep, the private sector is in net debt to the Govt. Daft. [🧵1/n]

If Govt reduces spending from 32% of GDP to 30% of GDP and the private sector doesn't grow, what happens to GDP? Anyone know?

If we can do this (we can) then LLMs can too.
“a while back there were discussions about future agents communicating by burning CPU cycles and measuring ambient temperature, revving up the fans and listening to fan sounds, and so on. After running this experiment, it wouldn't surprise me at all if publicly available models could do this sort of communication even today”

Economics didn't stay confused about public money by accident. A discipline that treats sovereign currency issuers like households produces governments terrified of their own ledgers, which is exactly how you keep wealth and power where it already sits. Most people can't check the homework because the subject was built to be unreadable. That's the real scandal. How Economics Manufactured the Household State Part II — They Kept Keynes’s Name and Removed His Threat keenlens.substack.com/p/how-…

Varoufakis is right and it's the same story in NZ. Cost-push inflation from petrol and shipping lanes doesn't care about the OCR. The RBNZ hikes anyway because it's the only lever in the cupboard, so mortgage holders absorb a war and a gas cartel's margins while the people pocketing the windfall never feel a thing. Blunt, regressive, and it pays interest income straight to bondholders while pensioners wait for a hip replacement. Wrong medicine, wrong patient, right alibi for the next round of "restraint".
