A bonus - whilst undertaking our planting session this afternoon a turtle nest was spotted and steps taken to protect. Handy that we had one of our Turtle Trackers @TurtleSAT SOSNT team with us!

A very exciting morning of #turtle trapping resulted in my very first baby eastern long-neck (Chelodina longicollis)! It is a rare treat to find #turtles this young. #1MillionTurtles #Research #Conservation

We caught more #TinyTurtles! These precious long-necks beat the odds, evaded the onslaught of foxes, & survived the first ~1-3 years of life. We're working with partners like @GreeningAust to test strategies for protecting nests & boosting survival. #Conservation #1MillionTurtles

Our urban wildlife will use what is available, what a shame there is very little consideration of creating functional habitat when building infrastructure- build it and they will come and do a great job too.

In areas of Western Sydney like @blacktowncc & @lpoolcouncil, wetlands have declined by a staggering 20-25% in just 8 years. No wonder our "common" turtle populations are in serious decline. This preliminary analysis is part a Master's student project @westernsydneyu
